How to disable stock texting?

I am going to start using Handcent, and I was wondering how to disable my stock messaging app.

go to the stock messaging options and turn off all notifications then you'll stop getting double notifications

That would be yoor messaging application in your app drawer. Tap on it then press the menu button and you should see the settings for the notifications.
