[HACKS] How To Install ForeverRoot/Cheesecake and Rom From Start to Finish

Thanks...I just remembered I used root explorer to turn some bloat to .bak files...I wonder if the wireless teathering hack (the one where you change in the database) will cause an issue?

Not sure. What I've read is the "all signatures" will be verified. I assumed that meant that all the bloatware and system files will be verified as valid. I don't really know about your tethering app, but I would sure get rid of it before trying. YMMV!!

You can use the new one click restore to get back to a virgin stock not matter what version

R3L3As3Droot And 43V3R Root For The Bionic V2 - RootzWiki

Thanks for this! I saved it & bookmarked the instructions! I noticed the camera is focusing faster with the update...I had to reinstall getjar since it didn't recognize my phone at first. Blockbuster had an update in the market & I had to activate my account (I have blockbuster on my bluray DVD too) but it works. Netflix works, all the usual apps (youtube, handsent, Google Earth, Maps, etc...all work great and FAST!!!

I just noticed that my update says 5.6.893 and NOT 5.5.893! PLUS I just went back to system updates & now I am getting an update called 5.7.893!!! Do you think Moto is updating the update? Am I screwed here?

Also, if one has problems RSD Lite flashing back to stock (where it fails early on in the process--this happens especially if you have a custom ROM previously installed), make sure you've done a factory reset first. You can get to the area where such a reset is possible by holding *both* volume up *and* down simultaneously when powering up.

Once the reset/wipe is complete, try flashing again in RSD Lite.

I just did the update to 5.6.893. The only thing I know (well, it's stated in almost every thread on every forum that addresses this update) is the phone must have all stock apps and no modifications, other than root (& forever root). If you have any bloatware frozen or deleted, it will fail. If you have modded the notification bar, it will fail.

Good luck.

Has flashing this update solved any of the network issues that plague the Bionic?

For the first day after I had perfect coverage. now I have no 4g anywhere even in the middle of Seattle. On the plus side I have nearly perfect 3G.

Gonna try to get to 5.7.893 tonight after I fix my computer.

It did for me. I have both the 5.5.893 and the 5.6.893 installed. My phone immediately started handling the hand-off from wifi to 3G perfectly - no delay. My phone started handling the 4G to 3G perfectly except for a slight delay. The hand-off works every time, but once in a while it will take up to 2 minutes to get the 3G back. It always connects though. The 4G (which was supposedly the reason for the 5.6 update) is stronger now on my phone. In fact, last night at supper I noticed I had zero bars on 4G. Fired up Tapatalk and it still connected to forums flawlessly and quickly. Started Dolphin HD and browsed a few pages - same thing, they loaded quickly. So, not perfect yet, but we've not seen the final OTA update yet either.

I've read that 5.7.893 is a webtop update only (and I believe it because I read it on the internet!!).

Do you have Liberty3 installed?

No. After I did the updates I installed Th3ory's new rom. I think I'm going to do the new 5.7.893 and then stay stock but with the rooted (43V3R). I've not run a stock phone since the early weeks of the D1. Think I'll give it a try for a while.

i tried to update but it keeps saying that i am up to date. But when i check my phone it says i am in .886, what do i do now?

What ROM you running? Liberty was built on .886 so it will show up that way

If your still having trouble go back to stock with forever root
