[How To] Root (or re-root) after 5.5.893

the phone didnt reboot during the process... did something go wrong?

When a adb restarts as root, it confirms root then restarts... so yes it should restart at the end of the process. Doesn't necessarily mean that it didn't root though... restart your phone manually and do titanium backup to text for root. If you don't get root access, just try the process again. Good luck!

It's my first droid and my first time rooting so i was just a bit freaked out lol I just had to install superuser and busybox from the market and everything is perfect dancedroid Thanks for the help!!!

Noob status but i unrooted so that i could install the r3l3as3droot and 43v3r root method seeing how everyone loved it and now my phone wont root anymore and keeps giving me errors... in the end it gives me the superuser app but no root access .... i probably should have left it alone from my first root but what options do i have now?!?! Help!

So I got it to work! But you have to do a factory restart and then it will root no problem. Hope this works for you too :D

First time I've tried rooting on the Bionic since switching from the OG Droid (about time). Decided to wait until after the 5.5.893 update to try it. I've attempted using P3Droid's 1-click root and it doesn't seem to be working. I've tried it twice now and both times it says it failed to copy su and busybox to their appropriate directories. I've tried doing this using ASTRO or File Manager and they both tell me they're read-only locations. However, the script reboots the phone then says "Your Phone is Rooted" but TiBu disagrees. Any suggestions?

Looks like the root worked for me, per the jntdroids instructions on the 1st page. I'm a first time rooter so I'm a bit clueless as to what everything "should" look like or how it all functions. All I have is the superuser app but I honestly don't even know what to do with it. I am by no means a reh-tard :D but I could use a little guidance to maximze the fuctions of it all. I did download titanium pro so I can freeze and delete all of the bloat.. still need to sift through and figure out what I can actually delete or freeze. Any quick recommendations?
How do I know if I'm 4ever rooted too? Or can someone point me in the right direction to permaroot it.

thank you thankyou:hail:

Works!

This method does work on 5.5.893!
But...you have to make sure you do a factory reset to avoid any hangups with previous root installs.

Then go.

I watched that video but I have already rooted my phone and that looks like you need to factory reset, re root and then forever root. ?
Is there a method to just forever root from where I'm at now. All I did was do the instructions on the first page, downloaded titanium backup too. I'm still kind of new to the ins and outs of this stuff.
thanks

I have a couple of questions:

I am rooted using one click. The update has been sent, but I have not applied it b/c I was waiting on some direction. The only other change to the phone is the radio hack to allow teathering. I have defrosted all bloat.

With the info provided in post 1 of this thread, should I go ahead and receive the update, the reroot with this method, knowing I could possibly have to do a factory reset?

Or should I go for the foreverroot method, the accept the update?

I am trying to go the route that is simplest for a non-tech person. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

You don't have to do a factory reset, unroot or re-root. All you have to do is follow the instructions to add those three lines of code to the mount_ext3.sh file in your /system/bin directory (using Root Explorer). This is not to gain root (since you are already rooted), but to make your root privileges PERMANENT through future OTA updates (assuming Moto doesn't patch the exploit). Make sure the mount_ext3.sh file permissions match the ones in the video at the end of the process.

I don't have any knowledge of the "radio hack to allow tethering" so you should check into that aspect of it first and make sure it has no impact on the update. Other than that, you could try the Forever Root method first, and if it fails to retain root, then try the method in this thread to root the update. That way you have two chances to end up rooted at the end of the process. From what I've read, if Forever Root fails, it does not have any ill effects, so why not try it? You have nothing to lose except root. Just my opinion of course.

quick question before I make the jump at rooting, is the 1-click exploit un-rootable? Use Pete's Motorola Root Tools to do so?
