HTC Faces Possible Import Ban This December; Google's Android Could Be Next

What the???

If they do get Android banned, I will join the civil lawsuit placed against apple for infringing on consumer rights and creating a monopoly.

They will NEVER get Android banned, at the very worst, all Android OEM's will pay a nice licensing fee to Apple. The judge's in these cases aren't morons, yes they have granted Apple some injunctions but ultimately that is delaying the inevitable that the judge will rule the Patents are too broad or they shouldn't have been allowed in the first place.....something to that extent.

We already had a good discussion going about this in another thread but this is really a result of a patent system gone terribly wrong. If the judge's are smart they will rule Apple shouldn't have these patents in the first place. But so long as they have the patents they are free and entitles to sue or try to get people to buy licenses for their patents. You guys can hate Apple for this all you want but they are not the problem here.....

Umm yea I'd have to say That apple is the problem. They try to kill off innovation from competition n try to just keep their idiotic cult following of dumbed down users who will shell every penny they have to get the newest piece of hardware, which is really the same device they currently have, Just wrapped in a different material, add on some more RAM, a faster processor, and a better camera of course.

When was the last time the iPhone has had an updated look to it's UI?!? Oh wait, it still looks the exact same as It did back when it debuted in 2007. Pretty innovative. If it weren't for iTunes there would be No apple. They'll be the first company to fizzle out in the future, with no more of a valued leader who had vision they wont go anywhere. Trying to bring down everything and everyone around them. Now I'm not one to support big greedy companies, but I would never support a company like that that threatens lawsuits and trying to bring down rivals because of some good ol fashioned competition. #BAMMM

Really the richest company in the world is going to fizzle out? iTunes is the only reason they are big? Wow you need some proper perspective.

I could understand apples lawsuit being lwgit if Android copied the exact coding... but come on.

Google will never let Android get banned. They own over half the market share. If anything they'll just pay off Apple. But to be honest, these patents are way to broad and a judge should see that and throw it out.

This is getting ridiculously old. I may be way out of line but I'm starting to get the feeling this is the first notes of Apple's slow but inevitable song of collapse. They're scared because after having such a sturdy and dominate placecard in the mobile market, they've quickly been overtaken by Google, as has everyone, and they're in a desperate fight to stay alive. I mean, look what's happened to RIM. No one wants a Blackberry anymore, they're useless paperweights with buttons by comparison. At the rate Google is going, THEY will end up being the monopoly, because with their stranglehold on the market, there's no way in hell anyone could simply get them banned. The executives at Apple probably knows this, and are just trying to line their pockets so they can continue paying their bills while they spend the day sipping coffee and looking for new jobs.

Just give up Apple; you're late to the finish line and there's nothing you can do about it but pout. You're once great product is just a glossy, polished version of what it was four years ago. You have been surpassed and you're only solution is to sue your closest competitors on the basis of general patent infringement and the only thing you've accomplished is reclaiming some lost profits and embarrassing your customers.

That first patent describes something that happenes automaticallly on websites unless I understand it wrong. If I add "mailto" before writing a mail address in an html document it turns it into a link that will when clicked on open the visitors email program.

Isn't this exactly the same?
How was apple able to patent such a script?

Personally, I think that the judge should set aside the patent because of prior art. ALL web browsers, and even email clients before them dating to 1987 and prior have this capability.

When this lawsuit first came out, I offered to help HTC with testimony to that effect, but couldn't get that message to their management through any means I could find at the time...

I will agree with that. The patent system is completely screwed up 100%. The amount of time spent in court is the other problem, the lower judges can say what they want, but then it's always appealed to a higher court and then reviewed 1000 times and it's a total burden on the court system. Those 2 patents are way too broad and should never have been allowed, now we find it in the situation it's in now, which is pretty bad. I also agree that i don't think that the judges would allow android to be banned but could force them to pay a pretty penny to apple. Removing android would pretty much give apple a monopoly on the market, so i'm sure that won't happen, as there are other laws to prevent that from happening.

Of course Apple is worried about Android. The iPhone came out the summer of 2007. The first "real" Android (Eclair 2.0) came out the fall of 2008. And since then Android's market share is nearly double Apple's.

Really. At one time GM was the world's largest manufacturing company. Gues what it is now.
At one time US steel was the largest steel manufacturer. Guess what it is now.

Not saying that Apple will ever fall, but like Microsoft it can drop in value. And never say never! Any large corporation can hit the dumps almost as fast as the raised to the top of the ladder.

As for the iPhone, I would say there are two reasons. One is iTunes, and the other is the dedication of their customers.

But they do make some great computer products too, but so did IBM at one time.;)

True I should have elaborated a bit more but didn't really want to since I get caught up in too many of these apple android threads, haha but right now Apple's products are only getting more recognition. They are selling more iPhones than ever, yes Android has taken over market share but they still don't have a single phone that can hold a flame to the iPhone (sales wise only). So I am not so sure they care too much that Android has more market share, I am sure they would love to have more market share but Android isn't really taking iOS customers but Android is killing off RIM, Symbian and WP7 almost single handedly.

If only I had a time machine to go back to, say 1995, and patent a rectangular shape with rounded edges. And white. Especially white.
