It looks like Samsung not only started a trend with their dual-edge curved displays, they also have created three big customers in the process. According to the latest rumors, Huawei, Xiaomi and Vivo will all be unveiling smartphones which use some version of Samsung's dual-edge curved display technology.

First, Vivo is set to announce their XPlay5 handset on March 1st. This should be the first non-Samsung phone to include Samsung’s Dual Edge display. In fact, the screen-shot above seems like it should be from a variant of the Samsung Galaxy Edge series, but it is supposedly the XPlay5.

Although no details were revealed, insider sources suggest Huawei and Xiaomi are prepared to announce something similar this year too. Could the dual-edge curved display be the hot new defacto standard for displays of the future? Maybe, but at the very least it's not really a surprising trend as it is one of the few ways to change the overall aesthetics of a smartphone, and add a little bit more functionality as well.

Interesting. Smart move on Samsung's part. If we can't keep our mobile phone sales numbers up, where can we make up for our losses? Sell parts to other phone makers. Boom!

I'm a fan of the edge design. Good to see other possibilities coming down the pike...
