I don't like Ice Cream Sandwich.

My battery life seems to have gotten a lot better on my Razr which is nice.

The one problem I have is that it appears the Ringer and Notification volumes are tied to each other or something. I'm on call 24/7 so I need my ringer on but don't want to hear my notifications going off all night for emails/texts, etc. I used to use a simple program called Timeriffic to turn off notifications and only have my ringer on from 11PM - 6AM then at 6AM the notifications turned back on but according to Timeriffic this can't be done on ICS. That's pretty disappointing to me unless I'm just missing something??

Maybe Timeriffic isn't compatible with ICS. Have you tried using smart actions?

RAM wise, I'm noticing the same about normally open from when I was on GB. I haven't killed anything all day, and I'm at 319MB free.

My battery is about the same so far.

Ok I don't have a razr but I hear a lot of people talk about "recalibrating the battery" and I am not sure how to do that or if I can on the DROID 3.

Any info on that?

Thanks!

Check out these threads. It's a lot of reading but well worth it (IMHO)!

My battery life hasnt changed either way from what I can tell...and everyone isnt gonna like it. My kids mother has been blocking the update on her Nexus S for months.

I did do a factory reset today to see something. Will have to keep an eye on battery life now to see if it does get better.

Post-ICS Battery won't charge

I finally got ICS yesterday morning on my Razr Maxx. Prior to ICS my batter would go two days easily without needing to be charged. By yesterday afternoon my battery was at 30% (so that's what that looks like). I plugged it in to charge on my PC, went on to do my thing. Came back an hour later and it was still at 30%. Odd. Went to bed a bit later and plugged it in to wall charger. Got up this morning, still at 30%.

What's that about? Is there a setting I need to change? I've gone all through it twice, including Smart Actions, and can't find anything that seems the culprit. Any ideas what is causing this and how to solve it?

Thank you!

My average battery life is 32 hours.

I know I'm late in the game with this post but I have to say, out of 3 maxx's that I have, all 3 are using WAY more battery now with ICS. I LOVE this OS but seriously, I should not have to install juice defender EVER on a maxx to try to get the battery life I had a week ago. Especially when one of the "features" of ics is to extend battery life. All 3 of mine are running on a 7-8hr life span and one of them gets used mainly for receiving texts and a few phone calls throughout the day. I used to get 2 days out of that one, 30-35hrs on another and 14 on the one I never put down. They are losing 10% with 30mins of use.

I read the factory reset and battery calibration comments. How does the factory reset improve the battery life? I'll do it but I'm curious to know how that helps. And the battery calibration ...is that just running it down to 0% and fully charging it?

Did you try taking it off Global and leaving it on LTE/CDMA?

There was also a person that had media, music files issues eating his battery. He removed the files and all is well so far.

I've said it on other threads, so I'll say it here too. The update OTA to ICS MAY have wiped out the Meter's Full charge and Low battery flags (setting them back to the default values). I recommend everyone run through a meter training as follows:
  1. Power off the phone at the next opportunity when you won't need it for 3 hours (RAZR), or 5.5 hours (MAXX). To power off, press and hold the power button, then select "Power off" from the menu.
  2. Plug the phone into the STOCK Motorola Charger block and the STOCK Motorola Charging/USB cable. The phone will boot into "Charge only" mode, display a large animated Blue battery and show a percentage of charge level.
  3. Allow the phone to charge to 100%. To check progress at any time along the way, briefly tap either Volume up or down. In about 3 seconds the Animated battery will appear for about 10 seconds. DO NOT hit the POWER button, and DO NOT disconnect UNTIL the display says 100%.
  4. Once it reaches 100%, disconnect and remove from the charger, and then power up normally.
  5. Use the phone normally, but watch the remaining battery power and once it reaches 10% (used to be 15%), the phone will pop up a warning to plug in and charge.
  6. Once the pop-up to charge appears, repeat steps 1 through 4.
This will restore the proper charge capacity flags for the meter so that in the future the phone will know accurately both how much the battery can actually hold, and how much is remaining at any given time, so it doesn't display false information that leads you to believe the phone is consuming more power than it actually is.

Thanks Jroc & FoxKat, for your responses. I did not know about the Global data setting so I changed it. The music/media issue you mentioned, are you referring to music outside of what is bought on Google play? If so, I don't have any music or media that I've installed on any of my phones.

I will try the battery suggestion, FoxKat. I just had 5% left but never got a "please plug your phone in" at any percentages. I didn't even think about it.

Thanks!

Megraven21, the "meter" calibration (not battery calibration) works by helping the meter to know the true capacity of the battery, and also at what point the Barry is considered discharged. Discharging to 0 is never recommended and should be avoided if at all possible. Discharging to either 15% (Gingerbread), or 10% (Ice Cream Sandwich), is all the discharge that is required.

I haven't noticed a battery life issue with the Ice Cream update, however, I do miss my Notifications that I used to get by pressing the icon on the lower left corner...is that feature just gone now?? Is there an APP I can get to add it back to my phone? I miss it!! Also, I'm not wild about the way the Contacts are now missing from the phone screen and you have to go to people to find them....I really liked them right on the phone itself

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Not sure what you mean about the notifications, but as far as the phone, if you tap the little magnifying glass when you open the phone dialer app (lower right corner) it will open your contacts list. The keyboard will pop up, which is a minor annoyance, but if you tap the first letter of the contact's name on the keyboard, it will take you right to the contacts that start with that letter. Hope this helps. :)

Mattyp....thanks for the magnifying tip! at least I can get to contacts now from the phone itself!!

.....when I pressed the lower left Icon on the old software, several choices came up, one of which was Notifications....that took me to a screen which showed me any missed calls, voicemails, text messages, weather-bug alerts, time to charge your phone, etc etc etc.....that option is gone now.....is there a way I can add it back on or a good app to download?? THANKS!!
