I Hate Maps & Navigation!

Sorry, but both Google Maps and Navigation have yet to steer me wrong.

Besides, I use these two sporratically. I prefer knowing where I am as opposed to having an app do it all for me.

I just told my Droid, "map beer" without having the GPS turned on. It still showed me all the places nearby where I can buy beer (the tower triangulation is a little off, but whatever). My Garmin would still be warming up.

Not that I need either to get to Froggy's, but you get the idea.

We live in the pacific northwest and travel I-5 from Tacoma to Bellingham and points west, including Whidbey Island.
Sometimes it takes awhile for GPS to find my location, and on one route that I travel often, the directions have taken me two different routes.
Otherwise, we enjoy using the system and have confidence it can be trusted.
We switched from American to British English speak and find it a bit more clear, but there is room for improvement in the voice department.

So do I, I only use GPS systems when I don't really know where I am going at all. Remember, these aren't addresses where I could just call whoever I am going to see to get an idea how to get there. These are POIs, and in most cases if you are on the road when you are looking for a POI, you wouldn't have time to find out exactly where the place is.

Regardless I still think it is a good app, it just needs a lot of work in the maps department.

Anyway, like I said, I love the phone. But verizon really shouldn't even be pushing this navigation thing as hard as they did because it simply isn't that great of a replacement as plenty have seen. Between the no cached maps, people having issues with satellites, and my issues with POIs it simply looks like this product is half done.

Fair enough - especially on the cache maps and POIs for me. It seems clear (at least to me) that there are very differing experiences with the overall accuracy of the maps. If the maps aren't up to snuff and you cant depend on them, then Google NAV's value would be questionable. But for my money, its been pretty good (Live in CO, and used NAV extensively on a trip to Arizona). YMMV.

I had been considering purchasing a Garmin before I got the Droid. In my case, NAV is MORE than good enough to avert spending the $$ to buy a dedicated unit.

Now watch it strand me in the middle of nowhere this weekend :)

Works great for me. So far, it's as good or better than my Garmin handheld GPS with North American roadmap download.

I think Navigation is the best feature of the phone

I have been using this feature finally for the last 10 days, all through Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Orlando, Tallahassee and now Atlanta. I finally got the car mount (the one from Best Buy was recommended) and I cannot believe how pleased I am with this feature. In all these destinations there was only one misnamed road and one Men's Warehouse that had moved.

For one traveling alone I feel safer than ever before because the accuracy and the reliability of this feature. Some have said the Garmin is better but if it is it could not be by much as I give this a 10 out of 10.

Once again I had problems again today, I am not sure why it only happens to me. I was going to a store and turned into the shopping center I thought the store was in but the GPS navigated me out of it and onto a delivery road and told me that I was at my destination. I realized that clearly the center was the one it was in, but none the less it still needs some work.

No problems here with maps

I tried to navigate to my favorite Mexican restaurant tonight, looked it up found it with ease, hit navigate and I was on my way. I got there, and of course it had been closed and turned into something else for quite some time.

Updates for POI's is good Google, give it a try.

As for my complaints about the software it's self, purely aesthetic for the most part. I hate how thin the navigating road line is and how small the car marker is, I don't have the best vision (20-40) and I'm sure this is most of the problem but I could see myself moving along the map MUCH more easily with my old TomTom. I'd rather sacrifice seeing 4 miles down the road for being able to see my progress without picking up my droid out of the cup holder and putting it up to my face. I've taken the wrong overpass many times now because of the thin road lines.

And get rid of the leap-frog style progress, just make it smooth. I find that a little obnoxious too.

Love it, use it frequently and have yet to have any issues. Actually last night I was taking the wife to dinner and decided to map the restaurant even though I didnt need too and google maps actually gave me a quicker route then what I normally take.

Im taking a road trip in a couple months, I am looking forward to testing it further then. I will get the car dock prior too.

Our local area has big issues with map markers which are used for directions. All businesses on our loop have incorrect markers which means wrong directions. My new garmin is still more reliable. It is the map though and not the app. Make sure to notify google of the issue. It can be done in the navigation area. Whoever sets up their markers can be way off. Even though the address is correct the marker also has to be correct. The markers on our loop are exactly 180 degrees off. If the business is supposed to be at the 1 o'clock position google has it at the 7 o'clock position.

The funny thing is...you bring up the destination on the phone or pc and look at the actual picture and it shows open fields for most places. So...the image is obviously tied to the marker as well and not the address. Actually embarrassing the other day. A colleague was in from another City and I was showing him the Droid. He asked about a local restaurant and how to find it. I opened up my Droid, and not thinking to much about it, punched in the name to get the directions. When I showed him the way, it was actually way off. The restraunt was on our loop. He did end up getting the Droid himself a couple of days ago so that didn't sway him, but still pretty sad.

been using the navigation almost everyday for the month ive had the phone and ive never had a single problem
