I HATE the new gallery!

thanks to lifeisabeach

downloaded multi touch gallery (free version) and it works and looks much like the old gallery. it has the "all photos" option and it had the pics that i long pressed and saved (unlike the new gallery). so thanks a ton for the info!

I don't care about the image quality factor. I hate the new gallery because it has no "all photos" file like the old one did. I hate having to search around the different folders to find the right pic I want now (to use for picsay, etc). Also, now when I find an image on google or somewhere else on the web and I long press the image, I select "save image" like I used to, but now the image doesn't show up in my gallery anywhere. What gives? This sucks! I use my pics for tons of stuff and now its too big of a pain to even try. Please give the option to have the old gallery back!

No offense but that's bull. I just saved like 10 pictures off a website and it put them in a "downloads" folder which shows up in the Gallery. Now what would be nice is if there was a "Save As" option that would let you choose the folder you want to save in. In the meantime, get a file manager like Astro, and using that in combination with mounting the device to your computer, create folders and throw the pics where you want them. As I mentioned on another thread, I didn't want the Camera Media folder anymore so I took all the pics out of it and added them to the rest of the pics I transferred onto the device in my Pictures folder. All of the videos I put in Videos. With nothing left in the folder it disappears.

You usually have to organize your media on a PC, why should a phone be any different?

No offense but that's bull.

ok, lmao, how can it be bull if it happened to me? it's great that you didn't have the problem i did, but saying it's bull with a "no offense" is a bit passive aggressive. all i was doing was posting a problem i had. i DO have astro, it was the first app i got when i purchased my droid. it's ok though, i fixed the problem by downloading multitouch gallery. thanks for the help....not.

new gallery is great.

why would you need to zoom in so far anyway? i'm pretty sure the quality is the same.

the quality is exactly the same..are you waiting after you zoom in for the picture to focus? because when you use multi touch to zoom or when you zoom at all the picture pixelates to create a smooth transition effect, after the effect the picture returns to normal quality.

It's definitely not the same. The quality of the original is the same as the old gallery but when you zoom it is very grainy in the new gallery no matter how long you wait. I noticed this when flashing between 2.1 and 2.0.1 ROMS before we all went to 2.1. The reason I noticed it is because when I add a picture frame widget to the home screen it looks blurry now when I crop out a face. When I did this on the same image in 2.0.1 it was very crisp. It's not the picture frame widget causing it either. It's blurry when zooming in using Gallery as well when it was not a problem in the old gallery.

Looks the same to me so idk whats wrong with yours

I also hate the new gallery.. I'm with you, OP, I have noticed intense lower quality when I zoom in on my phone. I also hate how trashy the new gallery is, not clean and organized like the old one was. I do not like how the folders/pictures seem to move around when I use it, it makes me somewhat carsick just trying to view them. I've always had tremendous succuss with the camera -- I use it to take pictures of my jewelry for my online shop. But now, I'd rather dig out the huge camera to take them.

Also, since we are on the subject of the gallery, is there a way to disable facebook and picasa as one of the options in sharing pictures? I find both options to be completely pointless, useless, and an eyesore. I do not and never will use either, and would love to delete that garbage from my phone.

Google: Android 2.1 Downgrades Image Quality | News & Opinion | PCMag.com

Google confirmed Dr. Soneira's findings with the following statement:

"The Gallery app in Android 2.0.1 is different from the Gallery app in Android 2.1. Google developed Gallery in Android 2.0.1, which uses 24-bit color rendered using 2D technology. On the other hand, Cooliris created Gallery in Android 2.1, which uses 16-bit textures rendered using 3D technology.

Apparently it is different.

Would anyone by chance be able to tell me why I'm getting a random address underneath my photos? I'm a new Droid user and updated my gallery but I have NO idea where this is coming from. It's just a street address and it's always there. Didn't have this issue until I updated to the newer version of the gallery. Any ideas?

I think if you go into the camera settings and uncheck the save location, that will fix that. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong

I hate the fact when deleting photos while scrolling through them individually resets the scroll position to first pic. Sucks when when you're going thru 50+ pics.
