It was definitely not in diagnostic mode. I took it back to Verizon and they gave me a brand new one because I was within 30 days and I have total equipment coverage. I told them that the latest update went bad and it wouldn't do anything. They gave me a new one no questions asked... dancedroid

It was most likely a Slcd screen and you unrooted to 2.1. Which makes it look like a brick but its just the Slcd drivers are not in the 2.1 build so the screen won't work.
