Ice cream sandwitch

Like I said already, Ice Cream Sandwich is a Linux distribution. They aren't tied to kernels. You can build the programs for whatever kernel you have the headers for.

Sure, binaries built for 3.0 kernels probably won't work due to ABI changes (or whatever they are called in Linux), but CM7 is built from source. Just use 2.3.32 kernel headers for the build.

In the normal history of the Linux kernel a change of major version number was a significant change. However, the change from 2.6.x to 3.0.0 was not. This major version jump was done partially on a whim by Linus.http://lwn.net/Articles/452531/Therefore, any hardware that supported the recent kernels should do just fine under 3.0.0
