ICS - Is it really that big a deal?

My wife got her ICS update a few days ago. I think one of the things that hurts the "newness" is the pervasiveness of the Sense skin. Just a personal preference, but I find Sense to be pretty ugly, and there really doesn't seem to be any huge changes in it from GB to ICS. Now, obviously, using an alternate launcher helps, but as she (and presumably many others) don't have any desire to mess with one, the visual effects on the main screens are largely lost. Just my 2 cents.

That being said, the phone does feel snappier and she seems pleased overall with the update.

I cleared notifications from one of my buttons on bottom of phone. I never knew I could do the swipe from the top! Thanks!

Being able to swipe close notifications and apps is VERY nice! After a few days now I am really liking it. Idle battery life is much better, it's much more stable on 4G and wifi...doesn't drop data at all. A few HUGE things for me. On GB whenever I updated apps from the Play store, 90+% of the time when I backed out Sense would crash and it would take 30-60 seconds to come back. Also, boot up time on GB was 5 minutes. Now on ICS Sense doesn't crash and boot up times are down to maybe a minute.

Here is an interesting thing though. Just after I downloaded ICS and did a factory reset....and before I had a chance to set up Google Voice for VM I got a call and it went into the Verizon VM. Even after I listened and deleted the message I get the Verizon VM icon notification on the top. I can get rid of it by going into the Phone app and force closing but every time I restart the phone it comes back. Not a HUGE deal but is there a way to get rid of it for good? I know this is a Verizon issue as many complain on all phones.

Try calling *73 to disable GV, go to Verizon voicemail end delete message again, enable TV again. That's how I got rid of the bug on an older phone a few years back when it did it to me.

A Rezound phone was used for this Tapatalk post

I love how I was one of the most patient people on here, waiting nicely for the OTA and resisiting the urge to ROM, only to shatter and destroy my phone while moving out one day before the OTA is released. I bought a Galaxy S3, so I can vouch for ICS being awesome on there, but now I have nothing to compare it to. Shame...

Knew it had to come soon and wouldn't be anything earth shattering, just general improvements. Glad it worked out though...

You traded up. The Galaxy S3 is better than the Rezound in every way except the display.
You are entitled to your opinion. The S3 is a great phone, but I strongly disagree that it is better than the Rezound in every way except the display.
The Galaxy S3 was on my watch list before I got my Rezound. I had compared, in depth, the Rezound, the S3 & the D4. Made a nice pros and cons list, tested out each at the Verizon store a couple times, did a ton of research, etc. And I chose the Rezound.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the S3's huge screen. It doesn't fit as well in the hand as the Rezound does.
The camera on the Rezound is better.
You get beats audio earbuds with the Rezound.
The Rezound costs less and is the better value.

And as far as performance goes, gsmarena.com has voting results posted and the Rezound and S3 are equal, except for performance, where the Rezound rated 8.3 compared to the S3's 8.2. And now that the Rezound has ICS, those polling numbers should only go up.

I'd put the Rezound up against any phone right now. I liked the S3, but for me, the Rezound was the better choice.

I love the camera on the Rezound, but from what I have seen, the one on the Galaxy S3 is better in every way. The photos look as good or better and it's shutter speed is significantly faster.

In what way is the Rezound better? Low light photos? Macro? Anything specific?

Maybe you are referring to the default camera?
Because on the Rezound, if you tweak the settings before taking a shot, based on low-light, incandescent, etc... the photos come out top notch.
I guess I shouldn't say it's a better camera than the S3, as I have only played with the S3 in the store and I can't do a fair comparison and analyze the photos side by side on a computer.
Maybe the S3 takes better photos without changing the settings?
I think I was just so impressed with the Rezound's camera and that is was the best I had seen on a phone, that I assumed it was better than the S3.

Even if the S3 camera is better, the Rezound camera still takes excellent photos and is one of the main reasons why I got it over some other phones.

No, the Rezound does have a great camera...and until the One X and Galaxy S3 came out, I would even say it is the best camera.

The Galaxy S3 camera adds image stabilization and a dramatically faster shutter speed. You could take 5 or 10 images on the S3 in the time it takes to snap one with the Rezound. The S3 has lower noise and therefore better image quality. Samsung Galaxy S III review -- Engadget - The One X camera is similar and also better.

The only area the Rezound might be better at is macro shots, but I doubt even that. It is not that the Rezound camera sucks, it's just that the S3 and One-X are THAT good.

Interesting! But hey, like you said, your entitled to your opinion. Actually coming FROM a Rezound, this phone is better in so many ways. In fact, the only thing I liked about the Rezound more was the red casing when you took off the battery cover. I was also never a fan of having the radio in the back cover. And as for the camera, where did you get these sources? If anything, the cameras are identical. If I absolutely HAD to choose, I'd give it to the S3. Picture clarity might be a bit better, but it's mostly ease of use and UI. You can open the camera by putting a finger on the lock screen and rotating the phone...found this very useful.

For me the S3s screens fits way better in my hand than the Rez. And I LOVE how light it is. I love seeing peoples eyes pop open in amazement when I tell them to compare how light this phone is compared to theirs. Some may not like it, but like you said...just my opinion :D

And most importantly for me, the battery is INFINITELY better. I even had the extended Mugen 1900mhz and the S3 runs circles around it.

With the extended battery the Rezound destroys the stock S3. I have gotten 24 hours before with normal use.

Of course the S3 also has a removable battery. It's one of the reasons I like the S3 so much. Samsung covered all the bases except for the display. And even the display is not awful.

Well that's just not fair comparing an extended battery to a stock battery...

If you have to go that far then you know you have a good stock battery.
