Ics sdk

Just being realistic, I was not saying that they shouldn't have the right to limit warranties. If I sold a piece of extremely hi-tech electronics, that cost millions in research & development, I sure as heck wouldn't be paying for repairs if the consumer whipped out a soldering iron, and made physical internal mods. My point was if you brick it, especially just with software mods only, they should fix it for a reasonable price, if it can be fixed easily.

I get what ur saying. And your right. If its easy to fix then they should but if u truly brick ur device its not as easy as reloading the o.s. yes they do have dev cables which would be used for a soft brick or a currupted update. But if its a true brick that means the bootloader is currupted and is not accessible to even there dev cables bc theres no way for the phone to communicate with computer. In that case theres no way they can prove u modifyed ur device in which case they send u a replacement via ur warrenty. Its motorola i get what ur saying.

We are definitely on the same page. If it is bricked, we are the consumers that paid full price, usually via subsidy...so, if we are paying way over 1k for the device (I don't care if the carrier is 50/50 40/60 whatever) they should at least fix it for a modest fee. As you said, if it is just resetting eproms, and doing a true reset to original specs, or as I said earlier, if it needs a board....fix it for a fair labor and parts, don't punish us b making us buy a new one that we own. Again, I am making this argument on software mods, not internal mods bricking the device.

Whether they can or should is the situation. If its truely bricked ur phone isnt going to be able totalk with the computer it essentiallt a brainless person in a sense. If they can fix it they will need an hourly rate shipping. There devs make somewhere around 60 an hour give or tske. Ur looking at 50-90 an hour if it takes them 2 hours thats the price if they just send u a replacement. But if they can fix it cheap then they should will yhey? Likely not

Pretty much nobody is subsidizing phones anymore. Sure you pay $200 - $300 plus two year contract on a $600 phone... but with a $350+ early termination fee, there's no real risk at all for carriers. We don't owe the carriers anything.

A real subsidy existed when ETFs were like $100. There was a real risk if you canceled your contract after a month that the carrier would lose a lot of money on the phone. Now, if you cancel after a month the carrier loses nothing at all.

Good point, and I agree, although I wasn't saying we owe them anything, just when you look at what we are paying for the equipment (which is the only reason I brought up subsidies, to point out that we are paying top dollar ourselves, regardless of how - cash upfront, or through contract) We pay top dollar for the equipment, the carriers make plenty too, so i just think we are owed a little more flexibility with our own equipment. Just food for thought....I know they don't get away with the same BS of "locking" a GSM phone to a specific carrier in most of the world, outside of the US. You know why they get away with what is considered an unfair trade practice in Europe, here in the US of A? Because they use lobbyists to keep things exactly as they are. If you have a business that has billions in revenue, you can keep a lot of things just as you like. Sorry to bring politics to the thread, and I will end it right there.

Hes right there at that point ur just a customer. The real question is will they unlock the bootloader with the ics update?
