Anyone else's Bionic NOT locking when they put it in there pocket with the "In-Pocket detection" checked to on? I don't get it...

I seen that on my the other day and played around with it a little. It was working then just now it wasn't. I turned it off then back on and its working. I think it uses the face detection sensor to operate it. Try toggling it off/on and put your finger across the top of the phone to see if it works.

Same here, it just doesn't do anything. Might it have to do with skin or pocket color?

Hmm my pocket detection also does not work

There's another post out there in the Discussion forum by a user who says that turning pocket detection OFF may have solved problems with the phone refusing to wake from sleep.

Thought mine was not working as well but I found an old thread here that in order for the in-pocket detection to work, you have to insert or put your unit in your pocket in upright position, not the other way around. Hope this helps.

Well now I had a chance to play around with this some more last night and today, and at least on my phone...so far...I seem to have found something.

Regardless of phone orientation, when I enable In-Pocket Protection and put it in my pocket it DOES work...until the first time that I manually blank the screen with the power button. From then on it will NEVER work, until I go to Settings to disable and re-enable. Then again it will work always, until I forget and manually kill via power button. I have now done as many as 30 in-and-out of pocket, after and while running various apps, and the protection always works...until I forget and manually use the power button to turn off.

So now it seems to work great, as long as I am willing to let the screen time out on it's own when I set it on a desk or something. In order to save battery I normally would not want to do this with my 2 minute time out, but I have had mostly decent success holding the phone against my chest for a moment to simulate going into the pocket. The key there seems to be having the entire face well covered.

Give it a try.

Yup, you are absolutely right... I played around with it again this morning and phone position/orientation in the pocket won't matter... But I didn't need to reboot my bionic in order to reset if I accidentally pushed the power button to lock the phone... I went back to settings and just disable/enable the in pocket detection and it worked again... I'll try to get tha habit of not touching the power button to lock the phone :) I set my display timeout to 1min...

hey KB, glad you're seeing the same. I also never had to reboot. I meant reset in settings. I set my screen to 30 seconds. We'll see if I can get used to that.

So now that it seems that the function does work, I wonder if it is as intended, or is there a bug concerning manually touching the power button.

BTW the setting seems to persist when using the power button to reboot. It's only using the power button for screen off that interrupts things.

My bad, I re-read and misunderstood your post! Anyway, I think this feature is cool to have and will eliminate the use of the power button (wear and tear saver too!) to lock the phone more often... So I have to get used to it :D

It was working for me for a while, but won't work anymore. I noticed that when it was working, you could see a very dim red light on one of the sensors and if you covered it the screen would turn off. Now I can't get it to work at all.

I just tried it and it worked when I used a finger to cover the sensor, but when i actually put it in my pocket it wouldn't work at all.

Been testing more and found that mine will only work when I put the sensor to my leg when it is in my pocket.

Mine works...Until I plug it in to charge/top off the battery. Then I have to go back into settings, uncheck it, exit out, then go back in to recheck the box. And then it works again. More high quality stuff from moto...
