Incredible poor signal bars?

I usually average 4 or 5 bars. I have yet to experience a low quality or dropped call with the INC.

First of all, let's take some things into consideration:

There a few people on here who have hinted at some good stuff. (and thank you to those who have)

#1. You NEED to find a way to *228 your phone and get it updated with new prl's. That means choose option 2 in the menu when you dial it. That is what updates your prl file on the phone. Without the current prl, you can have great coverage and your phone will never know it. If that means drive to an area with coverage to be able to program it correctly, then that's just what you'll have to do. It sure beats stressing yourself out trying to get Big Red to fix it over your phone that keeps dropping calls or cutting out when you can do it yourself. Just sayin....

#2. It's been said here a hundred times. Your bars may or may not be a good indication of your coverage. There are about, oh... 50 million different things that effect your coverage, if you want to know what they are then actually google it and read read read.As far as bars, I know for a fact that there was an update for the iPhone just this last year to fix problems with their bar display being inaccurate. Be cool, more bars in more places doesn't necessarily mean better service in more places. Welcome to the world of wireless... if you wanna talk about touchy words and displays, how about the word "nationwide." And if you know what I'm talking about, you just laughed out loud at your computer screen in agreement with me. Just sayin...

#3. Take responsibility. If your phone is having a legitimate issue, do your homework. If it warrants a visit to Big Red, then get in the car and drive! Take advantage of your insurance and warranty, they're there for a reason. Don't complain about your service or your results if you haven't given your provider the opportunity to make it right. If you're still having issues even after seeking them out, then you've got some decisions to make. Fact is, no service is perfect, and customers are recycled between carriers like you wouldn't believe. I hear it everyday... "I'm going to Sprint, I'm going to AT&T, I'm going"... blah blah blah. I don't take it personal at my place of work because if you want different service, that's your right. If a customer tries to use that as ammunition against me, I just say "Peace," and watch them walk out the door. There's no reason to argue. I'll save and help EVERY customer who WANTS to be saved or helped. If you don't, then don't let it hit you on the way out. Just sayin...

#4. :) I'm gonna shut up, but I hope this sheds some light.

DroidForums junkie!

Customer service, right. :3 I tried that, I used to work at a call center. I was good at but they screwed up my schedule. They had some kind of new way of doing the schedules that was all sorts of messed up, almost everyone else was complaining too and I know of a couple others that left. It was a good paying job though and pretty nice, man if only they hadn't messed up my schedule. D:

I appreciate the kind words folks. At the moment I do BOTH: Technical Service and Customer Service!

Trust me, I prefer tech, as the name states.

Unfortunately I'm the only one who really does tackle a lot of these issues where I work, so I'm kind of a lone ranger. My knowledge comes from experience as a result, lol. Droid DOES, wherever you live, if I move there I'll hit you up, haha. I'd love to work with some other folks who are the level if you know what I mean. I'll be the first to say I don't know it all, but I am more willing to learn than most are, and we'll leave it at that. Again, thanks for the kind words. I enjoy and am really glad to be a part of this forum, it gives me a way to put all my geekiness to use. :)

I have just switched from Tmo to VZ and have the INC. This is my third phone with Droid, and i have loved them, until now. My first was a G1, made by HTC. Second was a LG Optimus T which i purchased this past november. Both phones were great, and i never had an issue with either one.

But my new INC is terrible. I used the *228 at multiple locations to update my prl. While doing so, the phone suffers from poor call quality and alternates between me being able to hear it (although with a lot of static) to me hearing nothing but static.

I have also had issues on other calls, while the ones to my friends and family are aggrivating, the issues while on important calls related to my business is just unacceptable.

I have had this phone for a week, and have been back to VZ once already about it. Thats when they informed me of the *228. My signal is running between -101 to -103 dBm but my call quality is terrible.

I live north of Tampa, FL and many people i know have VZ with no signal issues. If the phone is causing the issue, what other droid phones would you recomend as a replacemet for this?

(On a side note, we have a Samsung Galaxy as well with the same issues).

Signal strength & battery drain

Thank you thank you all for these posts! I have just read through all 6 pages of posts as I just returned my incredible yesterday :(. I really really wanted to keep it too! Now I feel like I want to go back and repurchase it (from best buy right now free) not talking bars, just that standing right next to our home phone, an lg accolade simple flip phone, had to always go out side to use my droid and still barely a good call. I already know about checking the db stuff but couldn't deal with the slow app searches trying to find a good app. From having an aircard from before, I think my house can range from -85 to -90 t even -100 at times. That is accurate as about 6 mos. Ago.

I never tried *228 thou? Didn't even think of that nor do I realize the importance. (the lg accolade flip and my current lgenvy3 all *228).

I am not expecting miracles, I acknowledge and accept I live in the boonies and the signal can be tricky with the hills. I do have a booster antenna on my house I could attach the phone to if necessary, but like I said the other phones don't need it.

I also didn't calling verizon with my db info could result in them making changes?

Then, there's the battery! What to do? I even tried killing apps and keeping it limited to gmail, with the amount of phone time I only got to about 1:00pm and had to plug in to my computer.

By the end of the day yesterday I was successfully using my phone with it attached via USB for power and my iPod headphones on which helped improve the call signal by not holding the phone.

Whew! Thanks everyone for your time!

That's where I'm at! I want my phone back! But if I can't use it like all my other phones??? Any solution for the battery? Thoughts, comments? Suggestions?

I'm also having some crappy signal problems with my incredible. I tried the *228 but only at my home (with crappy signal), I'll try it again when I'm in a good covrage area and see if it solves the problem. If it doesn't, what is Verizons policy for upgades to a Droid X ? A friend of mine had one and had excellent service with 3G inside my house. My phone is only 1.5 months old.

Thanks
