Incredible Problems after Upgrade -- Help

My Verizon Droid Incredible had been working perfectly for the past six months. A week ago I was automatically upgraded to 2.2, and all of a sudden several applications have stopped working. Most problematically, my Task Killer does not work properly, and several apps (such as Google Navigation and the radio feature for MLB Baseball) keep running (and draining battery) even after I try to close them using the Task Killer. (Sometimes they also prevent the phone from turning off the screen, further draining battery). I called customer service and they were useless, telling me that Verizon was not responsible if apps didn't work or not, and I should contact the manufacturer of the app.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? (I too have had Skype and other apps I don't want continuously open, but that doesn't bother me quite as much as having apps that I want to close continuously run).

I bought my Incredible the day it came out and loved it ever since. Until the Froyo update came out. Now, it doesn't charge or hold a charge (overnight charging gets it to maybe 50% (still yellow) and that lasts about 30 minutes if not in use.

So basically, this update has turned my awesome phone into a paper weight. Even when plugged in.

What a disaster for Verizon. I rely on my phone for my business and this is killing me. I was told by tech support they would need to send me a new phone, but I seriously doubt it is the phone since it worked absolutely perfectly until that update came out. I'm getting second thoughts on Verizon and the Incredible.

It always blows my mind when people come on forums and vent their frustrations and say they are going to leave Verizon and {Insert Phone here}. Go ahead, pay the fee or just get another phone, it's really not a big deal. The majority of people are fine with the 2.2 update and have no problems, in fact, they are so happy they don't even post here. It's well known that the reason most technical forums seem so negative is that the majority of people who post are ticked off about something.

If you'd like us to try to help please be more specific about what your problem is. Versions would be helpful. Maybe it is hardware, maybe you need a new phone and it was just a coincidence. I'm pretty sure Verizon doesn't read these forums and most of us are just here because we love our phones and want to help others if we can.

Good luck with your issue and maybe your new iphone?

Sorry for violating your guidelines schoon, I didn't know this was your site. I'm sure not the only one that has had this happen to, and I'm only posting to help others know that it is a common problem. It sure would be an amazing coincidence that my perfect phone stopped working the very minute I was sent the update. But yea, you're probably right. Or not. Glad you're so concerned about my phone choice whereas you feel the need to reply to my own frustration. I don't think you can help, and I wasn't looking for your help. Just letting others know that the battery kill is a very, very, very common problem with this update. Please forgive me if my post was not worthy of your viewing.

Gee, and I thought i was being nice about it. I gave you several suggestions in there. Take em or leave em, I guess you leave them. It's just as much your forum as it is mine.

upgrade problems

Sorry, was talking about the problems since upgrading--especially email issues and battery drain. I am losing my emails.

Here's the latest -- I like to run the MLB At Bat app, that enables you to listen to the radio broadcast of games. The only way I have been able to figure out how to shut off the radio broadcast now is to go into Settings, Applications, Running Programs, etc., to shut it down. And, for some reason, after I've run the app -- and even after I've shut it down -- the automatic backlight down (after 1 minutes, or whatever I've set it to) no longer works, and the backlight on the phone stays on until I turn the phone off and on again.

Pull the task killer off the phone. Entirely. Then try a full, hard reset. To take it back to out of box condition. Then start reinstalling apps slowly. Between the task killer and apps, you have something not playing well with the 2.2 programming. Not all apps have been brought up to date to work with 2.2 and that will cause problems, including extreme battery usage.

Sorry to say, but every single issue you're having since the 2.2 update is all in your head.

I'm having the same battery problems & just got off the phone with some chick at Verizon's Executive offices in Irvine... I was told plainly that there is NOTHING wrong with the 2.2 update...

I was told she could have the update flashed to me but conveniently every single Verizon store in my area is not able to flash the update.....I live in L.A county....that doesn't sound very plausible to me at all

Oh. I did discover that if I turn off the 3G, my battery life goes back to the way it was before the update

All of you guys saying that there is nothing wrong with the 2.2 update, you are full of sh*t. I've had nothing but problems since the 2.2 update. I loved my phone before the 2.2 update, but now it sucks. Battery life is less that 4 hours. And on top of that, it takes over 4 hours to charge my phone now. I read everything about Advanced task killer using more battery and 2.2 has its own task killer. Thats bull.

I uninstalled advanced task killer. I went to my applications and forced stopped every app I could. Put my phone down, and 5 mins later, all the apps I forced killed were running again. So where is the 2.2 task killer?

I bought the extended life battery, 1750mah, and that helped the battery problem with 2.1. But now after the update, my battery is worse than the stock battery.

And now after the 2.2 update, it takes over 4 hours to charge my phone. I timed it today at work. My phones battery turned yellow at 10:45am. So I plugged in my charger and connected my phone. I made two phone calls, and checked my emails a few times while on the charger. Forced stopped everything 2 or 3 times. At 2:45pm, my phone wasnt charged yet. I had 9 bars in my battery status screen, but it wasnt charged. I left work at 3:10, and when I disconnected my phone, I actually had a full light on. Its 6:45pm now, and my battery is below 5 bars on the battery status screen. I've made one phone call that was about 10 mins long. Nothing else.

The 2.2 update has ruined my phone. I am open for suggestions to make things work. I dont download a lot of apps on my phone. I only have 3 screens of apps, and one screen has the home clock on it. So I dont have a lot on my phone. I wish there was a way I could go back to 2.1. I had none of these problems before the 2.2 update. NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the same problems as you're having. I contacted VZ's Executive Offices.

I was told there is nothing wrong with the update. Maybe if the Executive Offices get flooded with enough complaints they'll do something about it.

But in the meantime Verizon is overnighting me a new phone.

Here's the link for the Executive offices.

***I found out turning off my 3G makes my battery last longer***

I can see where this thread is going and will issue the warning now. Tone it down and keep it civil. I'm not directing this at anyone specific. I will say I don't find it amusing when profanity is deemed "acceptable" because one asterisk is used in place of a letter. I won't continue to change those. I will issue infractions.

I understand the frustration and don't like being what some deem overly hard, but I know how these threads digress and am stopping this one where it is. Ask questions and the members (and Verizon members that are here) will give their advice as they can.

Telling someone they are full of it will not garner sympathy or support. It will cause attacks and issues. Don't do that.

Now I will be watching this closely. For those with issues with the phone after the update, if it still is acting slow or wrong, take it into a local Verizon store. Make them run a new one with 2.2 on it side by side. If you can show them it is operating faster than yours, you have your argument for replacement.

As far as battery times, yes, they are down on Froyo. The charging times are up. They slowed down the charging process to try to fix the battery issue. They were shooting for less heat and more thorough charging. It appears they were wrong. So there will be other fixes tried, I'm sure.

By the way, turning off 3G ALWAYS saved the battery. With the 3G, when using it, it sucks the battery down. Then not using 3G, it is constantly searching for the signal. If the service isn't as strong, the phone exerts more energy looking for a solid 3G signal. Wifi will be less on the battery when possible.

Have you tried pause then kill on the baseball app?
Didn't know that wasn't there pre froyo as I'm new to Android and my inc updated while I was still in the store
Anyhoo that works for my music and radio apps that want to continue to run after a kill.
Heck fire, the stock music player does it but coming from wm I'm used to quirks
