Installing a custom rom...

When the phone is off, hold x first. Then hit power (while still holding x).

i have tried to reboot it manually twice by holding the x down during restart...the M is stuck on the screen...nothing is happening. Every once in awile the M dissapears for a second then comes back on. Can I let go of the X yet?

do i continue to hold the power button at the same time or just the x?
Nope, I did it again and it just doesn't do it. The "M" comes on for about
2 minutes then it will blink and stay on for another 2 minutes. It will continue
this cycle until I let go of the "x" button, then it will reboot as normal.

You can let go of the power button when the "M" comes up but continue holding x until you see CW or the exclamation point.

Recovery wasn't flashed correctly (see why I don't trust ROM Manager?). How did you root?

Recovery isn't there then. Use the method I mentioned with ROM Manager a couple posts back. That should do it :)

Honestly I forgot how I rooted, I think I used a 1-click method if I'm not mistaken.

I tried "flash alternate recovery" and got a message that says "an error occured while flashing your recovery" :(

Looks good. Now that you have that rom installed, make a backup. Just to make sure you dont loose all your hard work. You can never have too many backups.
