Invalid Credentials signing into Gmail on my Droid RAZR

I have the same problem everybody else is describing (both for gmail and for yahoo): "Connection error"
"The following error has prevented a successful connection:Incorrect username or password. Visit settings to correct.
[NO Mechanism not available]" and "Attention Invalid credentials" after I enter my valid password. Given that so many people are the same problem, it sounds like a system meltdown somewhere; very frustrating. I hope someone can come up with a fix.

Glad to see I am not the only one...

Like a few of you have posted I have a new Razr Maxx that I have owned for a little over one week, and I have service through Verizon. Up until yesterday everything was working perfectly and I loved it. When I woke up yesterday morning (June 21, 2012) I had an orange triangle icon that states "Authentication Error." Like the others I have double checked and my password was not only correct, but entered into my phone correctly. I am getting the exact same errors listed by you all. The errors have started to annoy me, as I keep dismissing them and not even attempting to sync, but it just keeps popping up. I have attempted to go to the play store as one suggested, this did not do a thing. I have attempted to update the password, and I have been trying unsuccessfully to completely remove the Gmail app all together but it will not allow me to do so. I get an error when I try to do this that says "invalid credentials." I did not accept any updates the night prior nor yesterday morning, so if an update broke this it is not one that I initiated. Hope to see some solutions soon...for a smart phone this sure does seem a bit "dumb."

I figured I ought to add to this too. It is Friday, June 22 and I just noticed the same problem in the Email app on my phone. All the passwords my phone is telling me are incorrect allow me to authenticate on my laptop. As weird as it is, I am glad it is not specific to me and my situation. That being said, my plan is to wait it out.

I am having same problem with my Droid 4

I am having the same issue with my Droid 4. Everything was fine until yesterday morning. My AOL will not sync and I keep getting the same messages that you all are getting. Has anyone found a solution? Is there someone that we can contact to find out what is going on?

I have 2 emails accounts setup on my RAZR and both have stopped working with the 'Invalid Credentials' error message. The credentials are correct. I hope they come up with a resolution quickly.

I'm wondering if it is an update that is causing the problem.... I have had my phone for 2 weeks, and its worked flawlessly. Yesterday it started doing exactly what everyone else's phone is doing. Ironically it happened the same time as everyone elses... Its having issues with the yahoo and gmail accounts. Invalid credentials, can't remove accounts, wrong password etc.....

Same issue with both my wife and my phones today. All of our email accounts that have automatic notification updates (she has Yahoo! and Gmail. I have two AOL accounts and a gmail) we cannot access through the EMAIL tab. We both have a DROID RAZR and like everyone else, we've only had the phones for about a week. I've gone as far as clearing the data from all my email accounts through the "Manage Apps" settings. But that did nothing, I can't add a new account and "My Accounts" still list the accounts that I cannot remove. I've read some other forums that say a Factory Reset fixed it, but I don't want to lose all my contacts and newly purchased Apps.

Please advise!
Does the moderator of this site have contacts to fix this problem or do we need to contact Motorola customer service.

Well thank god it's not just me. I only barely noticed it this morning while trying to send an email to a teacher. It wouldn't send, and then I noticed my inbox's have not been refreshed since yesterday. Upon trying to refresh my inbox's for all 3 of my email accounts, including Hotmail, Google, and my school email powered by Google, I got the same message. And then while trying to authenticate, got the "Invalid Credentials" on each account each time. It may just be a coincidence, but Android Version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is being rolled out beginning today for the RAZR line of phones. The system update will be going on over the course of the next few days. Ive only had my phone for a week and everything worked before.

I had this problem when I got my Maxx in March. I would either get an invalid credentials error, a connection error or an authentication error, depending on which way I was trying to add the account. I would then start over from scratch and I started getting an error message that the account already existed even though it didn't. I finally called verizon and it turned out that it was a fault in their new upgraded back-up assistant (That I had never ever used). I ended up having to add all my accounts in the stock mail "other" email icon (Instead of using the yahoo, hotmail and corporate) or using a non-stock email app (I use enhanced email. Many people use k9 or maildroid).

I did notice in play store an app called BA Fix For Razr (Backup Assistant Fix). I wonder if the purpose of the app is to fix the issue I had. I haven't tried it because at the time I had to use alternate means to set up my email so it hasn't been worth my time to try to set up all my email accounts on the stock email app to see if it will work.

Oh the irony. For the last 4 days I was religiously watching news posts online about the coming of ICS to the Droid RAZR. I was too busy working to check for any news today. And lo, here it is.
I wonder if it could have something to do with the upgrade. Clearly I am not a specialist regarding these things, but could our email authentication failures be due to a change on the VZW side to accommodate ICS?

Thats what I am thinking is going on here....

I'm having the same issues as all of you. I searched the issue and ended up here. I just joined so I could pass along how I was able to apply a quick fix to the issue but note I have not completely resolved the issue.

I got my Droid Razr Maxx 2 days ago and Gmail stopped syncing about 12 hours ago. The "Invalid Credentials" error was being generated when I was using the "Email" app. For me, the error is a Gmail only issue as I have another IMAP account working fine through the Email app.

In a nutshell, if you have the Gmail android app on the phone, use that. If you don't have it, install it.

When I check my gmail through the Gmail app, it works great.
I still cannot remove the Gmail account from the Email app but I just set my other IMAP account as the default so this seems to have taken care of some of notifications.

HTH

just realized

Getting the same results now on my Xoom. something screwy between android and using email app for gmail. I'm guessing someone in that mix updated some software w/o testing. if anyone figures it out, give a holler.

same here

No yahoo or Gmail on my razor maxx since yesterday morning. Would love to know if anyone finds a fix.

gmail and youtube finally working

The problem was with the 2 step verification google has added to android phones and othed devices. I tried several times unsuccessfully to follow this process but no luck. But when i entered the new generated password in gmail from my apps instead of the one linked to my corporate account it worked. I also had to add the same password to youtube this morning.
