I was talking to an isheep that tried to tell me "Just wait till I get my new 4s, ill have a better phone than all of you." "No you won't even be close" "Ill have 4g that's better than yours" "Are you kidding me?"
I had to look it up at 4g speeds on my rezound to shut him up, then show him on my hd screen that he doesn't have.
If you go to the Apple website there is not a single mention of it being 4g, in fact it is clearly 3g, so is this an Apple problem or AT&T problem??? But hey let's just create one more thread where we can puff out our chests and poke fun at the imbecile Apple consumers.
It's an AT&T thing... well maybe a little of both. AT&T's been calling it 4G on other phones like the Atrix, so either Apple said, "hey we need a piece of that", or AT&T said "hey we need to keep our '4G' label consistent across all devices, including the iPhone".
But most likely Apple said, "hey if we call it 4G, all of our mindless followers will think, 'hey our iPhone is now 4G, we rule all of you, our iPhone is the fastest iPhone ever anywhere... owned.'"
It has nothing to do with Apple trying to manipulate their users imo. This is AT&T trying to buy time on their 4G expansion. They are short on spectrum (even more so after the failed merger with T Mobile). Also, HSPA+ is wayyyy faster than the 3G on Verizon.

So let it say H+ like their other phones did before. My gfs atrix says h+ and always has. Since when did they become so obsessed with having 4g.
They recently lost small law suits due to people suing for getting throttled while they had unlimited internet. I hope they get sued again for false advertisement

This isn't the first phone to do this. Its not even the first phone on AT&T to get a "false" 4G label. Like Jnt said the S2 says '4G' even though it isn't. And HSPA+ is currently classified as 4G. That's what T Mobile considers 4G.

Back in the day none of todays 4G was 4G. This includes LTE, WiMAX, and HSPA+. To be considered 4G it had to do 100mbps. LTE and WiMax were a step in the right direction; as their evolution LTE Advance and whatever WiMAX new name is; does meet this.
Well vzw started calling their LTE 4G, and so T-Mobile decided to play around with HSPA+. First it was "Fast like 4G" and slowly they started calling it 4G. In the end some council decided that pretty much anything that is faster then 3G can be categorized as 4G.
Which is why 4G is really nothing more then a marketing term.
Is the iPhone 4s (on AT&T) even HSPA+, though? It was always advertised as just being faster than every other carriers.. but still showed as 3G and is still listed as 3G.
