iPhone games look and feel so much better

Give Android a bit more time. The iPhone has been around for years, something that Android can only now start bragging about (and by that, I mean that it's only been recently become years, plural).

Something I was considering this morning is that the really the only phone with 2.0 installed. So currently there are no games developed that support all that the hardware has to offer. def. looking forward to seeing what this phone is capable of.

It reminds me a bit of when the xbox first came out. Not many games were available for the machine that took advantage of the full capacity that console could deliver on.

If you guys took half a second to read the article I posted you would read that I found the news about gameloft being back in the Android game.

GameLoft has announced that it will be releasing mobile games in high def. for certain android devices. The Droid and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to be more specific.

I just started using my Droid, but I haven't noticed any lag at all and all of the decent apps seem to run smoothly. What are you running when you lag/have to force quit?

Robo Defence: With all towers upgraded and going off esp. in the upper levels, the game lags.

Abduction: The cow lags and stutters about half way up to the goal.

Doom: Forget about it. total crap.

My point exactly.

People go and rag on the DROID for falling short of iPhone status and what have you. Not being able to compete with the number of apps, et cetera, and so forth.

But again, people have to realize that Android is still a technology in its infancy.

The original iPhone was released on June 29, 2007. The 3G rolled out a year later, and then the 3GS another year, still.

Though the DROID isn't by any stretch the first Android device, as that distinct honor is held by the HTC Dream, which was released October 22, 2008.

So what people need to do is quit complaining about what the DROID can't do, and take a serious look at the fact that for a platform that's only been a real serious contender for a single year (vice the original multiple years I pointed out earlier), Android is leaps and bounds ahead of the iPhone.

That being said, I say we discuss all of DROID's shortcomings when it's been around as long as the iPhone has.

I agree with much of what you're saying. However, I think it's good to have discussions like these so developers can get a handle on what we as consumers want. These forums are researched for development ideas.

That being said, there's a difference between discussing and complaining. Once again, I completely agree with you that we need to give the platform time to mature, but we also need to voice what we want to see in future releases.

But you see we expect that people should be able to think like this. It is like chess always thinking 3+ moves ahead constantly. Not waiting for someone to spoon feed you information.

The now generations wants everything now now now. There is no forethought or thinking ahead. They see iphone and expect anything that is going to do this is going to have to instantly be there also and not take time to mature.

I have 2 mbp in my house and I love osx. I also have multiple win 7 boxes in my house to for things I cant do in apple. All of them either can dual boot and/or boot into a virtual linux OS for things apple nor windows can or cant do.

I am not biased on any one technology I like and use them all. I am not going to harp or make an apple product the top of all or any expectations for other products. This will make me one sided and very biased and lastly will get left in the advancement of technology.

People really need to open their eyes and think past the nose on their faces. It will just help them move on and learn and see more than what they think they are really seeing......

One of the reasons iPhone games are better is because you have 8gigs or more of memory/storage to run your apps from. Google is working on a solution to be able to run apps from the SD card, when that happens you will see better games for the droid. As developers will be able to make larger files with their games. As it stands it is hard to make a good game with great graphics and keep it small enough to run on the droids internal memory. Look at some of games file size for the iphone/itouch. They are huge compared to games availble on the droid.
App resources can be stored on the SD card. Only the binaries (which are tiny) need to be in memory.

Well if this is true then thank-you for the correction. I thought apps could not run off the SD card

Another thing to consider is that some of these games are probably not optimized for Android 2.0. There was another thread on here recently that mentioned Robo Defence and the fact that it ran so much smoother on the Hero. I'm sure Doom will run better on the earlier versions of Android as well.

I think we need to be a little patient. You can bet, as Android 2.0 increases is presence, many of these games will be updated for better performance.

Seriously, how much is Apple paying you guys to come here and say "I have a Droid, but I like the Iphone better."

I see several posts like this everyday. Doesn't pass the smell test....

I'm no troll...
But I kinda agree, my iTouch games "feel" better for some reason...

I know give the phone some time...

correct me if i'm wrong but isn't running applications off SD memory extremely slow? (i haven't used a high price SD card so maybe that was my issue?)
