IPhone vs Droid

Except for the Galaxy Nexus, every single Android phone I have ever used has had a back button.

And, Ironically, The Galaxy Nexus is attempting to follow the iPhone model of using software. Thankfully it looks like developers are ignoring the Nexus and continuing to use hardware nav buttons.

Not even close to the iPhone. The nexus still has dedicated functional keys that disappear when watching videos only. The iPhone just has one big button underneath its 1 inch screen.

Google isn't following anyone. If anything theyre starting a new trend. A trend which every other android manufacturer will follow and apple too.

The nexus has a back button, it's just on screen rather than built in?
Yeah, it isnt a real button. And (presumably) it doesn't override the app all the time. For example, in videos.

I'm pretty sure no other device that comes preloaded with ics has come out yet
"Yet"...there are several that are in development that will debut with ICS. The HTC Ville is one...it also has hardware buttons. I am unaware of any upcoming Android phone that will lack hardware buttons.

I agree. I dont like the Nexus solution, but it is still better than the iPhone.

That does not appear to be the case so far. I dont know of any other Android manufacturer that are doing button-less phones. Google is the only one.

have you ever seen videos of it or played with it in store? all you do is tap the screen and the buttons come back, and they work as effectively as regular hardware buttons

its mainly speculation, until they actually come out who knows if they will or not? Not to mention ICS is still fairly new so they might not have had devices without hardware buttons already in development

...assuming the software is working properly and is lag free. That might be true in the store, but will it be true all the time and on every phone?

I would also like not to have software buttons cluttering up my screen, and would like them to be consistent. Using it in the store, I found it annoying that they disappear during transitions. What happens if an app crashes during transition? No Nav buttons for you.

Thats kinda my point...people are assuming that this will be a new trend when in fact NO phones have been shown to be buttonless except the Nexus ones. That is hardly a trend. The ONLY non-Nexus phone we have seen so far coming with ICS out of the box has hardware Nav buttons.

When you see one let me know.

in the future. Not now

Like I said, when I see at least one other Android phone using it besides Google, I will believe it might be the future. So far the only ones I have seen all use hardware buttons.

I have an iPod touch, my fiance an iPhone 4....she loves ios ...I think its more stable most of the time ...however I think you'll need happier with the freedom of Android if your used to it now ..

The mods need to close this thread. The op already got the info he requested and this is turning into a flame session.

I had to make the same decision recently. I have a new macbook pro and absolutely love it so I thought I would give the iphone a good look. like the others, it came down to what I would loose more than what I would gain. Apple makes a great product but the closed market business strategy kills the end users ability to be free and flexible. The other thing that I realised was other than their camera upgrade (great if not the best) the upgrades for the most part just caught them up with their competition. It was an upgrade for the iphone but nothing really significant in the phone market. In the end I went with the Galaxy S2. To each is own but I don't think a closed market has much to offer compared to an open market. Just my opinion....

Apple's reasoning is that this is necessary in order to deliver the end user experience they want. Making everything Apple Only means all the hardware standards are 100% predictable.

The Android OS has to take into account SD expansion for example, even though Google themselves don't use it and don't think it is a good idea to have it for whatever reason.

The Galaxy S2 does have an awesome camera. But I would say the iPhone's is top shelf as well. As much as I don't like Apple, I gotta give them credit for that. The pictures and video look great and their interface for it is very intuitive. I would go so far as to say that the camera is a major reason to buy an iPhone.

As many iPhones are out there it shouldn't be hard for anyone contemplating switching to find someone to show the ins and outs of the phone. Seems like that would be better than relying on bias salespeople.
