Ok now I am talking about the most recent update that was released by Verizon to fix the reboot issues and gps locking...

I have not updated my software the first time and so I never had any reboot issues ... So I dont want to update my software from this version too... Besides it will tale away my free Hotspot feature too...but I saw suddenly when o took out my phone from my pocket showing downloading firmware.... I was lucky enough to cancel it.. lol but just to make sure... Did Verizon made is silent update ?? Or pushing on all thunderbolt?? Pe its just silly somethin I pressed unknowingly in my pocket ???

I really don't want to update this silly software... Unless I get gingerbread update ......

My question was not about weather I should update it or not... My question is whether Verizon has made it silent update which will update all tbs automatically or we can manually reject it...

After the update downloads completely, it presents you with a prompt to 'Accept', 'Defer' or 'Reject'. I hit 'Reject' and it says something like: "Software update rejected, to install later, go to settings > updates".

I found a hundred articles and posts about the software update, but nothing I've found yet has answered this very simple question.

Hope this is helpful!

I'm curious to know if Verizon can tell that you rejected the update and they'll get pissy about it, or be able to tell that you are using Hotspot and add it to your bill all of a sudden... if you find out pls post, I'll do the same.

Thanks for the info, my phone started downloading the firmware this morning and I had to switch to airplane mode to cancel it. Wasn't sure if there would be a prompt before it was installed. I haven't rooted my phone yet because I have a tendency to break phones. This has survived at least 5 drops so far and is still working fine.

Although the random reboots are very annoying, I'm not ready to lose the hotspot yet :)

Did the same thing to me this morning . I hit reject .Still abusing the free hotspot from Verizon.wondering how long will that last for until Verizon starts charging me extra money for it lol

Once it tarts downloading he new update... It shows that the phone will restart automatically.... If the update completes downloading than there won't be a way to stop it... Later I highly doubt it will ask us to install or reject....

As someone said above ... If u see it downloading ... Airplane mode or complete switching off is the best way to stop it ....

I wish o could completely do something so that it will not heck for updates or Dow.load itself

Root. Then you never have to think about updates again. Of course you can install anything you like from that point.

You can always return to stock at at time if you want or need to.

I allowed it and am sure my battery life is around 30 to 40% improved. Wondering if part of the upcoming Gingerbread was put into this.

thats bull .. i am rooted and it has been trying to download the update for the past 2 weeks for me .. from what i hear .. verizon scans what software number you have and if its below a certain number it pushes the download on you. in search of finding a way to stop the automatic download i came across and article in some dx forum that says to freeze update and upgrader and that stops the automatic download.. i tried that but ive been on bamf 1.8.6 and i think (my own speculations) anything thats based off of the mr2 radio then we're good .. thinking about switching back to my personal stripped darkslide combo (using an mr1 radio) that i was soooo freakin used to just to test out that theory

My update downloaded in my pocket at work the other day. Aside from losing the hot spot i've had no issues! And I had never installed the previous update. I had rejected it a few times but hey, it had to happen eventually.

after a long morning of searching for the answer .. sid answers .. good job buddy .. once again to save the day .. as a matter of fact i found the cure for stopping the ota .. yes it is in the build.prop file .. you have to change the verizon fingerprint... havent tested it on a mr1 rom like darkslide yet .. that will be done tomorrow .. but i have tested it on bamf remix 1.8.6 and was a success ... heres how i did it after searching the internet for hours on end .. damn im tired and my eyes hurt ..
currently i am running bamf remix 1.8.6 with Adrynals kernal cf 2.0 anyway .. the fix to change the system number so the (as i suspect but not 100% sure)

using root explorer... got to system>build.prop ... long press on build.prop select open in text editor (make sure you have it set to r/w)... next find the line that says

ro.build.fingerprint=verizon_wwe/htc_mecha/mecha/mecha:2.2.1/FRG83D/343953:user/release-keys (make sure that reads the same as your text in build.prop) I left the 343953 alone as a test to see if that really matters ... not to mention this is the fingerprint from the offical OTA ..

second (which is the only step that i did)
to change the system number which according to sid is what verizon apparently looks for to push the OTA i did the following .. two lines down you will find the next set of text:

ro.product.version=1.70.605.0 .... now .. this is the only thing that i changed just to make sure i still got a signal as i didnt want to have to reflash if i borked my phone since bamf remix 1.8.6 has a system number of 1.13.xxx.x .. cant remember what the last numbers were .. too lazy and tired to write them down to change them back ..

save text .. exit and reboot ..

blamo .. my system number now reads 1.70.605.0

Notice the 1.70.605.0 was the only thing i changed because of what sid said above .. not blaming him .. just in a way restating what he already said ..

Since it is late and i have to get up early .. when i have time tomorrow .. i will try this same process on my mr1 darkslide stripped and themed rom that i was so comfortable with .. to test if it all goes as i plan .. which for some reason i suspect it wont but heres hoping .. if not .. guess ive jumped back on the bamf wagon again .. hell might as well start drinking again ..

but all in all guess what im trying to say is that if you are still getting OTA auto downloads even running bamf remix 1.8.6 ... you can try these steps .. ive confirmed myself that it works .. and hopefully will work with any other rom you try it with .. but dont take my word for it .. i got no clue what im talking about!!!!

Good grief. If you are rooted and running a rom you will not get updates pushed. I don't know where you are coming up with your nonsense. If so you have done something wrong. You need to do some more reading. Sorry. P.S. I didn't know there was a darkslide rom for the Thunderbolt.

Um ive been doing this for quite a while .. i was rooted and running an ancient radio and i was rommed and my kernel was changed.. hmm .. dont think i did something wrong if i could change all 3 of those and my phone worked just fine in all aspects .. im not going to sit here and argue with you over the internet because that is just like trying to claim youre the smartest kid on the short bus . Ps.. there is a darkslide rom for he Thunderbolt.. Cant remember where i found it but if you would like a copy of it i would be mroe that happy to drop box it to you.
