IT Department Warned Me Against 'Rooting' Today

What's the consequence if one is caught rooting their company Droid?

Depends on the company and it's policies. I know of a few that would consider that grounds for termination. It's really no different than getting around a company firewall to watch YouTube videos of use Facebook.

Luckily my company isn't that oppressive... People use Facebook all day long. I think the only sites they block are XXX sites. I guess disciplinary action would would be one way the could sway me from 'rooting' it.

I guess their main downfall was allowing her to 'root' her phone. It would be rather difficult for them to discipline me, while allowing her to do it. Glad to know I have an 'out'.

Wait, wait...The IT chick needed someone to root it for her lol?

Hahaha, that's a good catch! I'm consistently disappointed in her non-nerd-ness... You would think a computer science major would be into doing more of that stuff on her own. She into web programming, but she hasn't really get into that much good stuff on her Droid, just 5 wallpapers, with like no apps

At least she's hawt :p

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm a watercraft engineer in the U.S. Army and have little to no knowledge of computers and was able to root after 3 or 4 days of research. Now I switch ROMS like atleast once a week. Oh thanks a lot Math3w for showing me how to do all this so that now I'm on the fast track to divorce.

Here is my two cents---
Prior to retiring I was the Director of IT. Protecting employee data was paramount so security was very tight.

Now that I'm retired, I would say -- if you want to root make sure that you have it password protected. If you use Exchange make sure the settings the IT folks provide are in your possession so that you can reenter.

Again, my two cents.

Oh hey when you get it I wonder if 2.1 will already be on it? Not sure if it can be rooted yet, so you may not have a choice to root till developers figure it out.

Why would you assume that all IT people are the same? We definitely have people with different areas of expertise and differing levels of willingness to tinker with things. In other words, not everyone fits the stereotype -- same as any stereotype out there.

Not to mention, as in other fields, there are plenty of those who are in it just for the money and not for any actual interest in tech.
