I am traveling to Japan for two weeks. I was talking to someone that said the iphone had an app with vonnage that allows you to place calls over wifi any similar app for a droid?
Also some other coworkers were there a few months ago and said that no one could get there phone to connect to the wifi networks. Any body have a clue why this would happen?

I was recently in Denmark. I used Fring to make wifi calls.I only used it to make calls but I think you can get a phone number to receive calls also.

No clue why I was in Tokyo and kyoto a few years ago. My OG DROID loved the speeds there. One thing I did notice I had to goto the lobby and get a code for my phone, the room code would work for one device aka my laptop.

I have a Skype account and used it for my calling over wifi while I was in europe last month from my bionic. I did video calls mostly with my wife and it worked well. I have the sony ear buds with mic that say Ipod compatible. They did very well for voice. You can use your bionic with no ear buds, but the phone will hear noice from around you and such so not as clear. With the ear buds the voice was very clear. You just need decent wifi to make it work. You can make calls using skype too if you have money in your account. Plus, if you get a skype number than others can call you, but again that does cost a little.
