jb is amazing! your thoughts?

Did anyone with JB OTA update from today notice any improvement in battery life, data connectivity and voice connectivity? Moto/VZW promised improvements in these areas.

It takes time for a device to settle into new software, give it a few days before taking anyone's word for battery life improvement.

I used the downloaded Torrent Zip and it installed with no problem. I uninstalled SafeStrap 3.11 first then went to recovery to install. Everything working fine and was able to get root back with OTA Rootkeeper.
I've been running some JB based Roms so was fairly familiar with the features. Nice and smooth compared to ICS.;);)
Now I just need to reinstall Safestrap and continue.

Overall I'm quite liking the JB update. I especially like the "avoid weak wifi connections" option, that should help a lot with the battery life. Also, I've noticed that the buzz/whine when you plug in headphones seems to be gone. Can anyone else confirm that they fixed that?

I downloaded the update from XDA, unfroze my frozen apps (TiB), used Voodoo root protector and applied the update manually through stock recovery. I did not have to unroot before the update. Don't know if unfreezing was necessary.

At firs the phone ran like dog sh!t but as it turns out it was because all my apps that require root were freaking out. As soon as I restored root and rebooted the phone settled down after a few minutes and has been running great. The UI is so smooth I still can't get over it. There are some other feature changes here and there that I don't really care about (I have no interest in Google Now due to it's need to log my browsing and location history which I turned off) but the UI improvements alone are worth the update. I actually used ADW launcher in ICS and even ADW got better performance too. Also, JB comes with Chrome, which works much better than the stock browser (this was not the case in ICS...it was pretty janky and I didn't use it).

I have read elsewhere that there is currently no root method for JB, but if you use Voodoo root protector to SAVE root on an already rooted ICS Bionic, you can just restore root after the update. I would imagine that if you FXZ (when that becomes possible) you would lose root and not be able to restore it unless a root method is developed. Since you can't FXZ back to ICS once you take this update, if you lose root, you lose root until someone figures out how to do it in JB. That said, if you have an already rooted device Voodoo rootkeeper DOES work and you will NOT lose root if you take the update.

Did I mention how awesome the UI works now?

You can download the latest Flash for ICS from Adobe and install it manually. However, keep in mind that Chrome doesn't support Flash. The stock browser as well as most others work just fine.

Just google "archived flash versions" and you should be able to find an Adobe page (it may be hosted by Macromedia) with ALL flash versions for Android. the latest one ends in ".54"

before jelly bean my Bluetooth and tether worked for freeeee and not it doesn't. outstanding...apparently these are items you have to pay to use and I wish I had not updated my phone. I am not using easy tether pro which works...not overly impressed at this point with jb.

I just installed Cyanogenmod a few weeks ago because my Bionic had become close to unusably slow... I think I'm going to wait a bit to take the update to see 1. if keeping Root is an issue, and 2 if it's worth going to stock instead of CM.

So far so good. The manual update went well, and I kept root. It took several minutes for JB to settle in after I rebooted. Now to disable all the bloatware I don't use. No complaints.

How do I use OTA Rootkeeper to backup or keep root? Please excuse me, I am slow. .

Get Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper from the Play Store. Run it to make a backup. It's that simple.

If you have apps frozen with an app like Titanium Backup, unfreeze them first.
If you do not want to wait for Verizon, get the download here in the first post.

Bionic JB Update File 98.72.22 - Torrent added, Please seed! - xda-developers

Jelly Bean is running awesome! Much better than ICS.
Battery life hasn't been great, but that might be because I can't keep my hands off it.

I agree. jb is great. I manually installed. I used voodoo root keeper, and managed to use TiBu to restore. However, now I've lost root. Any ideas how I might have done that? TiBu, Notification Toggle, and Root explorer were all allowed SU privileges since upgrade 5hrs ago, now it's gone!?
