just wanting to know..

Really it's up to you. If you can go into a BB or Verizon store and hold them. Each person has certain expectations on what the ideal phone should be and they mey not be the same as yours. If all the phones were the same price, maybe the Bionic wouldn't be best choice, but given the current cost it's pretty good.

Well in my world the only 2 affordable 4g phones are bionic and lucid. I've always been pulled towards the bionic for some reason. Hopefully it will still be around by next saturday

The Bionic is a very solid phone. You will not be disappointed at all. Especially when ICS finally arrives ;).

Does anyone out there have a slight clue as to when I should be looking for ics to hit our bionics.

Official word from Motorola was "early quarter 3." To me, we're in early Q3. August would be mid Q3 and Sept would be late Q3. But that's just my opinion here.

We have a couple weeks left to see if it actually happens or not.

Should be soon as a fifth ics bionic build was leaked a few days ago. I am running the 232 build and it has been great.

Is it hard to run these "builds" that u guys speak of?

When you get your bionic it should be relatively easy for you to install the leak since it will be a bone stock bionic. There are threads right here in the forums dedicated to the installation of the leaks. Check them out and do alot of reading before you try to install any leaked update. If u are at all uncomfortable with trying your hand at it, then you should wait for ics to be released officially. That will hopefully not be to far from now.

A bit more about these leaks. These were pulled off the Motorola servers and are simple to install. You put them on the SD-EXT (external memory), reboot the phone into Recovery (press Power + Volume Up/Down) and select the update (more detailed instructions are available, but that was the short version). The phone will install the update, just like it came to you OTA (Over The Air) and you'll be using the new operating system OS called ICS (for Ice Cream Sandwich).

Now, there are 5 leaks so far. If you pick one and install it, most likely you won't get the real deal when it does come out OTA. If you want to get back on the OTA path, you'll have to go back to 5.9.905 before you can. This is because Motorola/Verizon assumes you are currently on 5.9.905 and would try to send you the update to go from there. They will check your version on your phone and if it isn't (in this case) 5.9.905 they move on. Fortunately there is a way to go back (available on other threads) if you want to. On the first 4 leaks (6.7.232 is the latest) you are able to do this, but with 6.7.235 you can't. So if you want to install one of these leaks, I suggest going to 6.7.232 instead.

Well ya gotta start somewhere. But, i am sure you will be happy with ginger bread until ics comes out officially. Most of us have used it for months and it is fine. So i would suggest just learning the ins and outs of your new phone as it is. Then when you do get ics ota, you will be amazed at how much of an improvement it is over gb, and you can appreciate it that much more.

I agree. By the time you get everything figured out, the ICS update will be out. It'll be like getting a whole new phone all over again! :P But seriously, you'll have plenty of time to destroy the phone once you're bored with it.
