I didn't care for it either. I'm using the 30 day free trial of SwiftKey right now and I absolutely love it. I'll almost certainly be purchasing the full version when my trial is up. Well worth the money.

Well, sort of...
It would be well worth it if they let you customize it. They should let you add the number row, and change what the alternate functions of the keys are. And you should be able to customize the list of smileys. I want to add a bunch of things to that list for easy access rather than having to type them out, and I want to remove a few stupid ones that I never use.
It's rather annoying that they wouldn't have a simple feature like being able to customize that sort of thing.

I agree, though I still find it to be worth the asking price, just given the quality of the keyboard itself. I find that I can text faster, the keys are inherently more responsive, and the feedback seems to be just right. I really would love that number row up top, though. That's literally the one thing I liked about the stock keyboard.

I also like that it was context-based so it would often have the @ and .com buttons on display for entering usernames and such.
SwiftKey needs to implement the few good parts of the Samsung variant, and then let us customize the hell out of it. No reason they shouldn't do this. I'm sure tons more people would buy it then too.

I was lucky. I had gotten SwiftKey originally for free back when it was the Amazon App Store free app of the day. That translated to SwiftKey X also being free from Amazon when that came out. Then I signed up for, and got an invite from SwiftKey for the SwiftKey Flow beta. When it officially released, somehow it showed up as free for me from Google Play.

For someone who types as poorly as I do, has fat fingers and bad eyes I need arrow keys too. ;);)

That's why I'm a slider. Swype practically reads my mind. (example when sliding practically I never came anywhere near the a in the word. I slid from p to r to c to t to I to c to l to y and it picked it).
I keep sticking with Swype for that reason, with or without next word prediction. I use it on my tablets also and wish I could slide type on my desktop.

Mark, do you have the swype kb from the Market? Or are you talking about swyping with the samsung Or htc kb. I love swype typing. Just for the heck of it, I tried tap tap tapping a few months back. My Bob, that was the longest 5 minutes of my life!

I started with Swype beta years ago, tried everything slider, including the Jelly Bean stock version, but keep coming back to Swype because of what I wrote before. I'm using the Play store version now, got it on sale, but was very satisfied with beta.
The Play Store version lets me shrink the keyboard to phone sized, and move it, on this Nexus7 but that feature was already available for 10" devices. It makes it so I can slide I portrait or landscape on any of my devices.

I like a few things about the jelly bean stock kb. I like the dedicated number row on top (but I could live without it), but I really like the ease of punctuation on the stock kb. I downloaded the swype+dragon trial, the punctuation marks are all over the map, depending upon which key you long press.
The Jelly Bean stock kb is cool, you long press the period key and you have a choice of 12 different punctuation marks and symbols. Does the swype kb have anything like that? I *love* that feature. Once I've used it, it's a dealbreaker if a kb doesn't have it...:-)
