Larry Page: “You Won’t Believe What We Managed To Get Done In This Release" (ICS)

Saying this after the 4s...has to be something superior. Otherwise they would look dumb

Maybe something new, or something better than what already exists..much better

Don't put to much stock in that. Apple unveiling new features months or years after Android had it never stopped Apple from coming off like they invented it.

There's a lot I'm looking forward to in ICS, but I'm looking forward to a new phone even more.

Supposedly they overhauled the speech-to-text thingy, too. I'm anxious to see what that does combined with all that horsepower under the hood.
Maybe this is backwards reasoning, but I'm actually pretty curious to see how ICS works on *older* devices, especially single-core with less memory. I think the promise of "one OS, many devices" is the most intriguing part of ICS. If they can really pull that off, and we finally stop hearing the dreaded "f" word (fragmentation, e.g., Yes, Android Fragmentation Is Still A Huge Problem. This Chart Proves It - Business Insider) -- that would be pretty impressive.

Of course, the cooler thing is how it works on the latest and greatest hardware (Transformer 2 quad-core?).

Maybe. I tend to think that's just more about being one OS for tablets and smartphones, PERHAPS something like the Chromebook or whatever you call their netbook. I'd be shocked if it came to the Droid, officially, or can even be rom'd - never really understood why the Droid released with a measley 256mg of ram.

Yeah, I wonder the same thing. Do you remember how someone found out that the GB UI was "hidden" in HC?

Makes it seem like -- at least for graphical features -- there was a simple device check and then toggle for whichever features match the device. I'd be really disappointed if that were the development strategy for ICS. But in order for it to work well on devices like the Droid there has to be some kind of device check. It also begs the question of "minimum hardware/specs". I think it's an interesting question, but I don't see ICS working for every Android phone owner (not to mention that even if it *did* work, lord knows most carriers would NEVER actually release it for older phones).
