led notifications not working

I just recently upgraded to the 2.1 rom of bugless beast and now I've noticed I don't receive any led notifications for texts. I have it enabled in handcent. Any ideas?

LED notifications only show up when your screen is off. It's a great, battery-saving feature of the most recent 2.1 roms here (e.g. ere25, I think... and ese53)...

^ yup. I like it. When the screen is on, notifications show in the bar. I don't need the light on...

This one actually bothers me since I don't know when I get a txt if I'm playing a full screen game or in remote desktop.

I always keep my phone on silent =P. But I suppose it is a slightly more annoying way to fix that problem.
