LG Releases Impressive Teaser Video of New LG Watch Urabane

When wearables first came out I thought they were pointless, but after reading up on them (and lurking here for a while) I think I'm going to have to get one. And I have to say, that watch looks stunning. Anxious to see how it looks in person.

Agree. And that's the thing too... what can the $350 Android Watch do that my $100 (retail $229) watch cannot? So you're NOT paying for more functions...
Excellent point! The newer watches still have the same AW features as the more affordable G Watch. What are you really paying for? The round face I guess?

Just read an article saying the Urbane will run webOS...

It's the recently announced Urbane LTE that's rumored to run webOS. No mention of what the non-LTE version will be running. That said, I doubt they'd be running different software. But at this point, it's not confirmed that either version will have webOS.

"Seeing as how Android Wear currently does not support NFC, integrated cellular connectivity or the three-button configuration LG is offering, it is likely the Watch Urbane LTE is running webOS. Audi displayed a webOS-based smartwatch – made in collaboration with LG – at CES earlier this year, and the Watch Urbane LTE shares a few similarities with that device, including a three-button configuration, NFC and standalone cellular connectivity. While there's no official mention of the software the Watch Urbane LTE is running, we'll know more once we get a closer look at the watch at MWC."

LG Watch Urbane nabs LTE connectivity and NFC-based payments, loses Android Wear (Android Central)

Even though webOS is just a rumor, with the LTE version official, I'd say it's looking fairly likely that it won't be running Android Wear. If that's the case, I'll be passing on it.

WebOS?
I thought that was dead and buried. So much for being both Android and ios compatible or will it be like the Gear Fit that has apps on the Play Store that cross talk with a different os?

HP made webOS open source back in 2012, but in 2013 LG picked up the rights to much of it. At the time, the primary stated purpose for the acquisition was to update the OS for their smart TVs. But they also said they'd be exploring other ways to utilize it for different products.

Back in January of this year at CES, Audi and LG debuted a watch that shares many similarities to the Urbane that was running webOS: Exclusive: The hottest smartwatch of CES isn't running Android Wear — it's Open webOS (Android Central). In my mind, that lends further credence to the rumors of the Urbane running webOS.

I just remember a buddy of mine switched from his Palm device on Verizon only after he said it was officially abandoned. I'm thinking that was 2012?
Another head scratcher by LG. I guess the only other thing they could do to kill sales potential even more is a subpar battery. I thought they'd turned the corner with the G series but alas it seems like maybe not.

I believe HP stopped officially supporting webOS on phones and tablets around 2012. They didn't completely abandon webOS on the whole though. They continued to support some measure of development for a while after they made it open source.

Cutting corners. If I'm reading it right that might explain the monster battery size as well.

OK, I should have done the research but I thought at first that the "P" implied the actual watch face might be plastic. That was the reason for questioning it. Apparently it's the technology used to create the actual LED display and it's quite arbitrary. The key issue is whether the watch is or isn't going to have a glass crown, and I would now assume it is.
