loading saved maps from pc to my droid

I have a saved map (directions) from maps.google.com from my laptop.

Is there a way to load this into the maps app on the droid?

I don't like the route that the google maps app generates.

Yep,

Just save it on your PC. Then open Google Maps, -> Menu-> Layers-> More Layers-> My maps-> It will be there

Just be aware that Google Maps Nav won't navigate using that route.

Awhile ago I did some travelling and made some custom maps to get to certain locations were I knew the best route would differ from Google Maps if I remember correctly I had to email the route to the Droid and it read those directions....

If you read the email it was just the turn by turn directions, so I'm pretty sure Google Maps read it right form the Email.
