Looking for advice - Did anyone here switch from Droid X to Fascinate?

forgot to mention, GPS lock on does take a bit longer than it did on my Droid 1. But, it still works. Definitely not a dealbreaker.

Again - thanks for the responses everyone. It's definitely made me less nervous about switching. Think I'll be picking up the Fascinate this weekend.

I currently own both devices, and I have to say that in my opinion the Fascinate is the best Android device I've used thus far. It gets phenomenal battery life for a Super AMOLED device, and the display is absolutely gorgeous. The phone is quick without even a touch of lag. The GPS problem is rather prevalent, but as another said, Samsung should release a fix for it within a few weeks. Since I picked up this device, my X has just been sitting on my desk collecting dust. That's not to say that the X is a bad phone, I still love it and tinker with it from time to time. To me, the Fascinate just blows it out of the water.

Both my buddy and I have the Droid X and both our #1 problem with the X was the speaker volume and how much we were both disappointed on how muted the ringtones/notifications were. Sure you can find sound ringtones that were loud (somewhat) but we want music ringtones and they were super quite hence why we missed a lot of phone calls and text messages.

My buddy switched to the Fascinate yesterday and loves it because you can get to your contacts, messages, apps all in one location without having to slide to another screen.

I'll be switching to the Fascinate today because its the last day for buy one get one free and she'll be able to get the Droid 2 that she really wants (because of the keyboard). The X is a great phone but the bulkyness I thought I would get used to in the past 2 1/2 weeks but its still a problem and awkward to use w/ one hand. I'll miss the blinking green light that notified me on new messages, missed calls, e-mails but I can live without it. My main thing is I want a phone that I can hear it go off when I get a text/call.

I love my notification light as well, so all I did was download NOLED apps on the market and its even better than just a tiny led light..google it it rocks!!

the application does the following:

1. When your phone receives a notification, it switches the screen on and displays a dot somewhere in the top left corner. The dot bounces around every 3 seconds. This will guarantee using different LEDs so that the same ones won't be burned out !

2. Each type of missed event generates a new LED color. The screen will also display a combination of dots if you missed more than one event. The color scheme is as following:
Blue - Missed calls
Green - SMS calls
Yellow - Gtalk messages
Purple - Gmail messages
Red - all others (see 3.)

3. NoLED will work with SMS, Gtalk, Gmail and Missed calls even in silent/vibrate mode. However, other apps that may be using audio notifications will not work if phone is in silent/vibrate mode.

4. For all other apps that may be sounding a notification (e.g. some sports apps' notifications), please make sure they only use the default samsung notifications or the ones placed in /sdcard/sd/media/audio/notifications

5. The app runs as a service, after installing, you have two ways to activate the app. (a) by restarting. (b) by loading the widget into your home screen and clicking on it.

3. To get rid of the notification screen, the only key you can use is the home key. Using the capacitive touch buttons will do nothing, and so as clicking anywhere on the screen. Once your screen turns on, all notifications disappear and will not come up until a new notification sound is received.

I am sure most of you know this already but if any X users are thinking of changing to the Fascinate(or anyone else thinking of getting the Fascinate) They are going to be free tomorrow at Best Buy. I have a buddy who works there and he has reserved me two. So as of tomorrow my wife and I will both be SmartPhone ownersdancedroid. I did a lot of research (although I am not nearly as smart on these topics as most people on here) and I feel I made the right choice with the Fascinate over the X. I will be able to tell you tomorrow though. Can't wait.

I am coming form an Incredible to the Fascinate and I have to say I think the phone is pretty fantastic. The only gripes I would have the phone aren't so much software as much hardware. I don't like having only 2 GB of internal memory and I don't like the placement of the power button. It runs well, and the battery gets me through the day. I was talking to a friend and watching a Youtube videos at the same time for a better part of an hour after the phone had already been off the charger for 14 hours. :P With mild use through out the day, mainly playing Jeweled and texting.

I got to say, I got the fascinate, because the X wasn't in stock. "Try it for 30 days, and by then the X will be in stock" is what they said. With that in mind, I've really tried to not like this phone, so I could switch to the X, or at least try it.

After 2 weeks, there isn't really anything I can say negatively about this phone.

Sure GPS takes 45 seconds instead of 5, but most of the time I know where I'm going anyway.

Bing, what bing?

At the end of the day I wanted the best hardware, and as far as I understand, the Galaxy S series is tough to beat.

my2cents...
I agree with Dunc4n. I use my phone primarily for business, I am a network admin and a project manager. I've used BB and Win Mobile. I am a fan of the fascinate, note I was very skeptical about droid OS and touch screen for that matter. I never considered the X based on size of the screen. I've set up 4 for coworkers for email, I can't use the X with just one hand which is important to me (I'm 6'4") . I'm still within my 30 and not looking back. Google GPS works great for me. Battery is 50% right now at 8:30 and it's been off the charger since 7am and BT has been on all day synced with my car. Get app killer. I also have a "live screen"on. Bing? Seriously? Stop reading reviews on phones, each phone is great in its own right. Buy it for the functions you want the most. I have a garmin gps that I will use on long trips, but if I get lost and garmin is at home, oh well, they work similarly.

I've had an X since launch day and, while I really like the phone, I'm finding the size of it is just a bit too large for my liking.

One question I have about the Fascinate is how is it's reception? With my X, reception is excellent in my area. I've had the HTC Incredible and had all kinds of reception problems with it. So, how does the Fascinate stack up?

From my understanding researching the Fascinate that it dosent get that great of reception. And the GPS is less than desired. Anyhow I dont own one but I considered it. For what its worth... I read alot about it before deciding against returning my X for it.

so have any others traded their X in for a fascinate... I'm still on the fence on this as I've seen ripped blurays played on the fascinate and it was really nice... I'm still stuck.. I just want to hear more reviews from people that did have both...

Well here is my .02 cents.

I had bought the Droid X the day it was released for full retail price and actually stood in line at the local store for the release.... It was that big of a deal to me since I had the first Moto Droid but absolutly hated the keyboard and never used it. Ended up having to get a warranty replacement X to replace the first one as it would not accept a charge anymore. Other than that it was a good phone I thought.... till

I rooted the X, ran LauncherPro + etc.

As of 10/05/10 I purchased a Samsung Fascinate NIB off Craigslist for a song because I too wanted to know which one was better.

Been using the Fascinate for 6 days now here are my thoughts:
-Screen is amazing!
-MUCH faster than the X, no lag!
-BING??? There's no such thing after rooting and installing Google Maps/Search. Rooted the Fascinate within 5 minutes of activating it on Verizon. Touchwiz is a mute point since I have Launcher Pro + installed.
-Great music player compared to stock Android
-Form factor. My hands don't hurt after holding the phone for an extended time, unlike the X Which is one of the main reason the Fascinate was appealing to me.
-I can type one handed once again! The X was large and heavy. (I'm 6'7" with large hands...)
-Camera on the Fascinate is worlds better than the X. Must faster to take the picture and not as blury or grainy. MP isn't everything...
-Screen... is it truely gorilla glass on the Fascinate? I have managed to put a small scratch on the Fascinate already. Never had one bit of trouble with the X and ran it naked all the time. Have ordered a realok screen protector for the Fascinate now.
-Battery life on the Fascinate seems to be much better than the X, same apps running on both phones.
-Weight... the Fascinate is much lighter and easier to carry around compared to the X
-Call quality for me is comparible to the X. Maybe to sensitive and the speaker volume I always have to keep it on the lowest setting. Wished the volume could go lower yet.
-Biggest gripes I have are: Doesn't have froyo 2.2 on the phone yet and the GPS signal/lock on issue.
I also don't like the fact that Verizon Navigator is the default for the car dock app. (hope that can be changed?)

So in my rambling on about the Fascinate... I have sold the X on CL for $425 with EVERY accessory you could buy for it and than some.

I'm glad I made the switch to the Fascinate. It's only going to get better once custom roms and Froyo come out for it. :icon_ banana:

Side note: If the Samsung Tab is anything like the Fascinate It's going to be one awesome Tablet to have, just have to wait for the Wifi version to become available....

Thanks generalg. I appreciate the feedback. With the cardock.navigation, couldn't you just make it use google nav? Or it wont let you?

I just found the correct car doc .apk with linking to google maps and navigation on xda forums. Also just installed the Voodoo kernel for the lagfix that just came out. This phone is even faster yet! whoohoo!
