Looks like 2.1 Update will be a while.

I am set with the new bugless rom. Extremely fast and stable. No need for 2.1 in my corner.

My phone is still working just as well today as the day I took it home, so i'm happy.

+1. 2.1 will probably be a huge let down with all the hype that has surround it. Some apps are already available.

I expect more complaints then compliments when it is released.

I just don't understand why people can't wait for something that's free.

I'm really looking forward to 5 screens and I guess the media dock is cooler and active backgrounds, otherwise, what's the big deal? Plus it will be free.

Lets all calm down.....

First, where did moto or vzon themselves say it would be out in Jan? Find me one spot where they say it and say 2.1 and Jan. It's all been speculation. And now you wanna be mad cause the rumors weren't true?

Secondly, what are you hoping to gain by 2.1? Be specific. Becuase I have not rooted my droid and I have the gallery, the dock clock, the news/weather widget and the launcher(scrolling app dock and 5 screens) all working really well. Sooo what's the problem here other than feeling duped by a bunch of people who have no idea.

Stop trusting "reliable sources" over the internet.

BIG CAM: You can add the 2.1 launcher and get the 5 screens, and the dock clock now without voiding your warranty.

Looks like they're taking their time with 2.1. I can't believe they don't have any news about the release date. We could be looking at weeks or months. This is frustrating.
Would you rather have them post some arbitrary date only to have it slip?

I just don't understand why people can't wait for something that's free.
Impatience, self-entitlement, certainly other reasons as well. I find I'm much happier in general if I don't read the rumors or take them with a grain of salt -- as they should be. Releases will come when they come. I can't imagine that the people complaining about the wait would be happy if it was rushed through and extremely buggy. Either way, someone's going to gripe.

They've only had 2.1 for a couple weeks not months. I for one have much respect for Motorola you guys seem to forget that they released an update a month after the release.

This is true about the release a month after the phone came out....but then again...thats not saying too much about them having to fix issues that soon. Everything on 2.1 really should have been out originally on the phone. I have no problem waiting, I'm just saying..

Agreed, with exemption. Google Chrome has different channels, you can choose to wait for your updates, or you can go to the developer channel and get updates much much sooner, but you have an understanding of the risks associated. So people in the dev channel get what they want and don't complain. I wish we could have that for android

I agree with you 100%. What is up with the impatience and what is so wrong about 2.01 that is going to be fixed in 2.1? Sure, we know that 2.1 has some improvements albeit mostly visual, but give Motorola a chance to test and do any custom development that is required to port this version to the Droid and other devices that will be getting the upgrade.

After being in the software business for 20 years, the one thing I know well NOT to do is release untested software.

For those of you that really want 2.1 so bad that it keeps you up at night, feel free to download the various ROM's out there.

Read the first paragraph of the android 2.1 sdk. It says that 2.1 will start being released in January 2010. link Android 2.1, Release 1 | Android Developers

I would love Launcher but it FC'd mine constantly so I'm stuck with three screens until 2.1 comes out... so yes I'm a little impatient.

Hey all,

I too am looking forward to this release. My inside friend originally said it would be out the 24th.. give or take a day for the 100s of 1000s of droid owners and eris owners that all needed to be updated.. they roll it out over a few days most likely to avoid massive bandwidth issues.

That said, being on the developer forums, there was a particularly nasty bug found with multi-touch that is indeed at the Android level. The bug affects, from what I have seen that was tested, every app that uses multi touch in such a way. This includes most games. The issue is probably not hard to duplicate. Basically, if you find a multi-touch app, try this. Picsay is one I think. Try putting one finger down, then a second. Then remove the first. Without removing the second, put the first down again somewhere else. Apparently the bug is that android seems to think the first finger going down the second time is at the same spot as the 2nd finger has been left at.

My guess is that is a pretty bad issue and that the Android team is working on it. I however would guess if they were, we'd be seeing an Android 2.2 release, not 2.1. It may very well be that motorolla and nexus are not only updating their drivers and such for Android 2.1, but possibly working around the bug themselves in their drivers for their screen. It may infact be an issue with the touch screen itself and they could be waiting for that to be resolved. There is no word that I have heard at this point what the hold up is. However, I agree.. I'd much rather see a nasty issue like that resolved (if that is indeed what is causing the delay), and get a solid release. Still, it would be nice if they would communicate something to us.

Given the pre-release memo that mentioned an update on 1/22, I was expecting something by now. Not necessarily 2.1, but something.

I was actually just browsing that forum the other day, I was about to post something similar but you beat me to, thanks for this post.

I am quite sure this is why, and Google is holding back so that the Nexus One can aslo get this updated, 2.1 update.
