Hey I was wondering if anyone knows how to make the wifi stay on even when the droid is locked. Where I live I don't get cell reception so I use google voice to send and receive sms messages. When the screen is locked after a few minutes the wifi turns off so sms messages won't get forwarded. Thanks

My guess is, you'd have to set the screen to never time out.
Place it airplane mode, then turn wifi on....
Most likely that seems like the way to go, but say good bye to battery life then
You can't set the screen time out to "never." It's 30 minutes max. The proper suggestion was to set WiFi not to sleep.

Didn't work! I set my "Display" to "Never Sleep". Cannot get through a download...AND cannot connect with USB , because the phone is invisible to to my PC, though rooted Droid X will charge on USB. Wifi keeps cycling off and on after root whether downloading or not.

Or your computer thinks USB devices are a tasty, tasty snack. One friend built a desktop and went through two usb wifi dongles, several flash drives, and his Charge before figuring out that he has to use an extension cord to keep them from frying. The Charge works, but can't connect to any computer now.
