Malware Attacks Against Androids Increase

This is true. But what it was doing was data mining and sending all that data to a server in mainland China. IIRC, it was going to a host for a known spammer or something similar.

Yes you are right about that. Which is so very similar to the internet on our computers now a days. The only thing though is that the information it was gathering what not all that important. Nothing to spam you uncontrollably with. I guess the only explanation is that our phones our becoming more and more like our home computers every day. People are looking to get every bit of information out of you whether you like it or not. The developers of Angry Birds could get very greedy and get paid off to give out everyone's information if they wanted. Yes that would most likely be illegal but it is just as problematic. Lets just hope these things don't continue or get worse.

the wallpaper app malware that was found was not only for rooted users... IIRC it was using the phones SMS (a permission which was asked when the app was installed, which should have been a BIG RED FLAG).

We can say to watch the permissions until were blue in the face, always check the permissions. Some people wont get the hint though. I know the wallpaper thing was a while back but its innevitable that it will happen and people will go in to a panic.
