Market and GMail won't load

The music and pictures are on your SD card. They will NOT be erased. I had the exact same problem with my phone. Doing the factory reset solved the problem. Your apps are saved in the market and you will be able to reload the easily. The easiest way is to get into the market on a computer and send then to your phone if the don't automatically reload.

This post is Incredible 2!

just b/c ive had problems with every mechanical thing ive ever tried something on, im gonna write down every app i have before even considering this. it will more than likely be a waste of time, but im too paranoid not to

sorry to keep upping this but "uninstall updates" means uninstall the application altogether? that's awesome, i guess i just deleted the market. sweet. now if i reboot will it come back or am i massive idiot who just screwed the phone?

You only hit "uninstall updates" and now the market is gone? It sounds like you deleted the apk....If you actually removed it then it's not going to come back...you'll have push a market apk to your phone if you want it back. Or a factory reset should fix it up.

can i download it online then just move it to the phone when it's connected to the pc?

its a system app, i didnt even know i could delete those, makes no sense. i re-downloaded youtube from another market and now that runs, and i can access my gmail through just the "mail" app on the phone, but everytime i click gmail or market (icon remains even though its not in the "manage applications" list) i just get a quick white screen then nothing

pretty awesome how i can delete the market somehow but not blockbuster, need for speed or any of that other bloatware crap

You can download the apk from online, but I believe you said you aren't rooted, right? You'll be able to put the apk on your SD card, but you probably won't be able to install it because it needs to be installed in system/apps (which needs root access). You could try installing it straight from the SD card, but it probably won't work....

well, navigator doesnt work either, so i guess that's the last straw and i have to grit my teeth and do it. could this be something bigger than that? is my phone messed up? I have insurance, should i just bring it in to Verizon?

sorry to keep being a pain in the neck. am i supposed to have an email in my gmail with my contacts backed up? i have 2 gmail accounts. one i made the day of purchase that i told the guy to back my stuff up to, and my email i use all the time. when i used to update apps in the market some were for one gmail account and some were from the other. am i supposed to have emails? the one i set up that day only has 14 emails in the inbox and i dont see anything about contacts.

Sorry, I'm confused. Can you bring me up to date on this issue. I just re-read through the thread and it looks like you had decided to do the Factory Reset. Did you do that?

There is a way around all this, even the market issue. You can use the main Market on the internet: https://market.android.com/apps . Once you log in with your gmail account info, it will allow you to look through and install apps from there directly to your phone. You can in fact install all the apps you are having trouble with except the Market app.

Oh, BTW your contacts are tied to whichever gmail account you were logged in with at the time you added the contacts. They should be automatically synced with your contacts app on the phone.

but theres still no way to replace teh corrupt market on the phone, right? also, navigator force closes everytime i open it, can i install that through the market online?

and i haven't factory reset yet, i really dont want to for a couple of rogue apps.

well i stumped 3 workers at the Verizon stores, so i guess it's factory reboot

Have you done a Factory Data Reset yet?

Here's the instructions:

  • Turn the power off. If your HTC DROID Incredible is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
  • Hold the Volume Down button
  • Press and release the Power button
  • You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
  • Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
  • Press and release the Power button
  • Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO

If you selected YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the HTC DROID Incredible. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.

well after all that i sat down to do this, and it didnt work. the phone just kept starting normally. is this the only way, or am i doing something wrong? i held the volume button down and turned it on, but nothing out of the ordinary happened

My bad, those are the instructions for the Incredible, not the 2. I think you can just go to the Privacy setting in the main settings section and select Factory Data Reset. Do not select to wipe sdcard once in that menu.

ok. gmail synced up, market back working, music and photos there... no apps. sign into market, and only 6 apps that i had appear "not installed." talk me off the ledge, where are they? what's my next step? i have the same amount of available space on the card as i did pre-reset (im almost positive) so it seems like the apps aren't lost, but i have no clue how to get them, wtf
