Message Indicator Won't Go Away

My stock message app shows that I have one unread message and I can't get it to go away. I've openned all of my threads, sent myself text messages, rearranged the icons at the bottom of the screen, restarted the phone, pulled the battery. I literally can't think of anything else left to do to get the notification to go away. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Oh, I've also deleted the data and cache. I've received dozens of texts since this icon first appeared. But I've had the unread message icon for the last 4 days. When I get a new message, it chances to "2". But as soon as I read that one, it goes back to "1" instead of resetting to zero.

Clear the cached under manage applications. Worst case scenario, you can buy my backup pro (highly recommended) and backup everything before performing a hard reset.
