Just found this thread...third generation Army here. Four years active, Basic at Ft. Jackson (in July & August, yeah it was hot), AIT Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Mainz Germany 8th infantry - 1st Armored, Ft. Puke Louzianna, Ft. Hood 5th Infantry - 2nd Armored. Two years reserve cause I missed it but my reserve unit was ate up so I just stopped going.

My cousin was in MOH winner Sal Junta's platoon at the Korengal valley until he almost got his hand blown off by an RPG/IED. His brother 9 years in the Navy etc. Etc.

Remember, you are a recruit, not a Private. Remember, don't look the Drill Instructor in the eye at all cost. He is a Drill Instructor, not a Drill Sergeant. Learn your General Orders before you go in. Remember, they are trying to break you down. It's a game, try to remember that when they have you really down and think you want to quit. Enjoy your time in boot camp. I look back and fondly remember the good times, and for those rough times, I can barely remember those. The week at the rifle range sticks out in my mind as the best week of boot camp - that or when we won final drill.

Please let us know how training went.
