Yeah, I hate it. But Quickpic is doing pretty great. It even shows some pics on my SD card I've been looking for for a while now. Just have to find which folder they're in so I can use them for my music.

You can long press the folders in the MIUI gallery and hide them

Seriously awesome tip. I just hid pictures from at least 30-50 folders which cleaned up the gallery beyond considerably.
