Motorola Apparently Not Satisfied With Android

There is no way they could be this dumb...

Oh well, worry not, we still have HTC, Samsung, LG... plenty of manufacturers after MOTO goes back to the limbo it was in before Droid1

I don't get all the blur complaints myself. I'm not a fan of the homescreen launcher currently, but everything else is much more useable than stock android. But the newest iteration is at least night and day faster than the current stock release. I have no reason to doubt recent positive comments regarding the upcoming blur version are spot on.

People knock it because it's fashionable. It's disgusting. The camera, dialer, messaging apps, etc. are all improvements over vanilla android in terms of aesthetics and ease of use.

But everyone is entitled to their opinion. Unfortunately, there's no qualifier requiring said opinion to be based on anything tangible.

tl;dr ....jk.

I don't see how Motorola can realistically move away from android as a base. They don't have the clout to launch a new ecosystem like MS with WP7. That article definitely seems to speak towards an effort to differentiate on software, much like HTC with Sense. I am curious to see what they come up with.

I have to say that if this is the route Moto is taking (this is still just speculation right now), then it's gonna be the dumbest move they have made in a long time. Android helped bring their company it's first profit in over half a decade. I cannot see them doing something this idiotic. But stranger things have happened. If this is the case and they are getting rid of Android before it's time, then Samsung and HTC will be getting my money from now on.

Motorola is continuing to make my choice easier for me. Motoblur= fail. At least htc is making sense useful but motorola is just messing all over android. The only reason motorola was able to be in the same conversation as apple was cuz of android. I almost want motorola to do it. I am tired of them giving us the motorola phones they been giving us. As long as their game plan is encrypted bootloaders and motoblur then I want them to get out the android game for good and go back to nothingness. Lets see if LG will step up because I am like the LG G2X.

And everyone thinks that all those Anrdoid users are on the forums? Not really. What is the percentage of Android users that visit forums? 10-20 percent?

Most moto users have no problem with blur. If they did, Moto phones would never sell.

If moto wants to go their way, or go two ways, who cares. It is their decision.

I have a X, because the DINC and Samsung had terrible phone reception compared to the X. Most people will continue to purchase and use the best phone for their needs.

WHAT? No way man, probably >1%.

Yep. Users like us, found in a forum, are barely a drop in the bucket numerically compared to the rest of the people who use these particular phones. But the thing is is that we can articulate exactly what our issues are with Blur. The casual user simply perceives it as an experience that just isn't what it could be or not what they had hoped.

I've been saying this for a while. And it's precisely the reason given by Nokia for choosing to partner with MS. Hardware is quickly becoming commoditized and the only way for OEM's to charge a premium and make decent margins is to differentiate on software. Now, I do agree that they may be too focused on UI overlays, but that's the way it is.

Most people won't and don't want to root their phone and flash a rom. The hardcore "vanilla" constituency here only validates the marketability of these overlays. No, no overlay is for everyone - try to be all things for all people and no one is satisfied.

If instead of Blur the Moto phones came loaded with Cyanogen Mod a lot of people here would be all over it (and a lot of people wouldn't care for it). People keep projecting their preferences on the market, but the market is not uniform (otherwise everyone would have an IPhone).

Just like they say, ignorance is bliss...how else could companies be run like Apple and flourish the way they do.

This surprises me not at all. Let's look at Moto's history. They blow the cellphone market wide open with the StarTac, make buttloads of money, absolutely dominate the market so that anyone who is anyone has a StarTac, and then sit on their laurels while everyone else passes them by until they are on the brink of bankruptcy.

Then they come out with the Razr and it's the StarTac all over again; they dominate the market, make buttloads of money, anyone who is anyone has a Razr, and Moto sits on their butts until they are, once again, on the brink of bankruptcy.

Then comes the Droid, which not only brings Moto back with StarTac III, unarguably makes Android a household name, Moto dominates both the Android market as well as smartphone market, and then they come out with the Droid X. Granted, the X has sold amazingly well and hardwarewise is still an amazing phone, Moto totally abandoned the vanilla Android philosophy that mad the Droid the success it was.

Why should we expect Moto to get a clue now? They're only following the only path they know. :icon_evil:

Honestly I doubt Moto will go completely away from Android.. at least not right away. However, I do believe they'll probably continually increase the size and effect of blur until you're no longer able to tell that you're running Android and blur essentially becomes the os. And I figure they'll do all of this while continuing with locked/encrypted boot loaders. It's things like this that caused me to go with the TB instead of waiting for the Bionic..
