Motorola Comfirms New Droid Keyboard

If they do change the hardware on the droid I wouldn't see why they wouldn't allow for a keyboard swap. With that said unless its a huge noticeable difference iit may not be worth it. With the low clearence between the screen and the keyboard I do not know what they can do to improve the keyboard to a point where it would make a difference.
i highly doubt a keyboard swap. its new hardware all together and that wold be a loss to them...

kinda like with RIM an the BB Tour. The essex is coming out soon and the only difference is trackball to trackpad and they definitely wouldn't do a swap.

No worries. Phone is still great and it only took a week to adjust to this keyboard. Can't wait for the update and flash player.

I don't understand that. Motorola had to have known the keyboard sucked before the release -- everything preview that came out before it was released talked about it, and I'd imagine SOMEONE at Motorola must have tried typing before it was released. Why go back and change it now?

My Droid has a physical keyboard? Coming from a BB storm I am already used to using only the virtual keyboard so it doesn't matter what kind of physical keyboard is on my droid, it stays closed except to play crazy android because I need to D-Pad for that.

I actually like the keyboard on the Droid. and my hands are fairly big.

Although its a bit late i think its good their fixing it... That just goes to show that they actually care about peoples opinions and are working hard to have the Droid reach its high expectations.

How come no other sites who covered CES are reporting this?

so will it be a updated DROID or will they just name it differently? Can we all have a spontaneous problem and go to VZ to update to the new keyboard? lol:icon_ devil:

Insurance replacements aren't an option to the get 'new keyboard'. They'll keep replacing your Droid with the 'old' Droid because that's what you have. So no accidental toilet drops guys... you'll just be wasting money :)

I haven't heard or seen anything else about this so I'm not sweating it yet.... If it comes out with new hardware, ie 512mb ram, I'll be working some words to get the 'new' Droid :)

I dont know how this thing even got to production with this piss poor excuse for a keyboard. Didnt anyone in design or testing say "you know, I dont think this keyboard is very good"?? I dont use it or rarely use it because it sucks.

Anyone who has used some of the old HTC winmo phones has no problems with the keyboard. Use a xv/ppc6700 then whine about the kb.

I love how in your pocket is this marvel of tech and all people can do is whine because they don't have the feeling in their fingers/fat fingers and can't use the keyboard.

YOU knew what the kb was like when you bought the phone. No one put a gun to your head and made you buy it.

The keyboard is fine on this phone. Hell I'd go so far as to say that it's a close second to the i760, and that has the best keyboard of all time.

Take a pill dude. Im not the only one saying the keyboard is pretty terrible. Close to best keyboard of all time? Now Ive heard it all. Im not whining about anything, just stating the fact that has been said a hundred times over, the keyboard was poorly designed.

edit - just a few examples of what reviewers are saying:

"The Droid's biggest flaw, however, is in its hardware design: The keyboard is shallow and flat, which can make typing uncomfortable."

"The Ugly - The Droid features a slider keyboard I find hard to use"

"Unlike many other phones with standard, "QWERTY" keyboards, the Droid has keys that are pretty much flat, which often made it hard to type accurately. This wasn't helped by the fact that, aside from the space bar, the keys are all the same size. Two blank key-sized spaces on the bottom of the keyboard — one on the left, one on the right — made me wonder why Motorola didn't try to at least enlarge the often-used "return" key."

If a person cant be critical of something they buy then its a pretty sad world we live it.
