Motorola Now 'Cautious' about Partnership with Verizon because of iPhone

Both my best (V60 and Droid D1) and worst (V120 V325) phones have been Motorolas. Reception has always been top notch (except for the V120 which was a POS in every possible way) and I don't think I've ever broken one so the build quality must be decent. On the other hand some such as my v325 have had some pretty annoying quirks. My wife has had a couple of LGs which had better features for the money and were bug free out of the box but started breaking in various ways in under a year and she takes VERY good care of her phones.

Until I see that encrypted Bootloader eliminated, I am not really considering Motorola phones. Sent them an email stating it too.

Had a Moto Droid 1 up until 1 week ago. The screen went bad so I was faced with buying something to replace it until my "new every two" is due. I eBayed a HTC Droid Incredible. I would have preferred a Droid X but for that damn Bootloader.

You have 10 months Moto to earn my business back, I will be waiting!

I wrote them something similar on twitter. "Do you want to increase sales? leave android phone bootloaders unlocked."

I've been thinking this since Moto announced at CES that the Attrix was going to AT&T exclusively. Im sure they said F U verizon you want the Iphone we'll show you and they did. They gave VZW a phone with less specs and releasing it alot later than they should of.

interesting, and very possible. Easy enough, the customers can do the same to them :r_c:

I will not purchase another Moto device with a locked bootloader. HTC Thunderbolt, here I come!

X2 I love my D1, but I will not be buying motorola again until they're unlocked. I wuldn't pay $250 for a computer with guest access only, it makes most of the specs irrelevant, why would I for a phone?

How about you stop 'biting the hand that feeds' and quit locking down your damn phones? When my next phone is from HTC rather than you that doesn't have a damn thing to do with the iPhone and everything to do with your stupid decision to lock me out of my own device.

ya know what. I love my OG droid and probably will for some time...mostly cause of a lack of an upgrade. But I cant get over all the crap they have been pulling. The atrix is a great phone and I do think that moving it to at&t is a good idea for them. They don't have anything really out there on that network so getting their name out to another store is a huge move. They easily could have done what apple did with at&t and sign an exclusive contract with Verizon and pump out these phones exclusively for them. However I feel like this is a show off to apple. Telling the world that you don't have to keep goodies to everyone and showing how much better and far reaching android can be. I also know a lot of friends who have at&t and don't want to switch to Verizon just for a great android phone. So this will defiantly boost sales. However after saying all that my main problem with Motorola is the locked bootloader. But that statement they shot out a few weeks back saying they will not work without keeping their products under lock and key. They way they did that and released it really upset me. I also think it upset every person with an original droid. They way they came out publicly and stated that they do not support anyone messing with their products was a huge slap in the face. I know they came out and issued a response and claimed that that originally was false statement. Also and lastly I can't believe they would downgraded the bionic just so the atrix was better. Advertising the phone more can show that they are moving and partnering with other providers. I honestly hope that when the bionic does come out it isn't locked. Because that would instantly make the phone by leaps and bounds better than the atrix for different reasons and actually show that Motorola are faithful to their customers and proud root happy devs.

Yeah, they do have some business risk concentrated at VZW. Big deal. AT&T has an underwhelming line-up of Android phones so it only made sense to bring a premium phone there. The Bionic is a very similar phone, so it's not like Moto is withholding anything or rebelling against VZW.

And it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out sales have slowed when they haven't really released a good phone on VZW in over 8 months (I don't think the Pro or the Global were ever "hot" phones). The Bionic should sell very well if all the anxious buyers out there don't get tired of waiting and jump all over the TBolt (if that ever comes out, haha).

Moto needs to Release a New Phone on VZ without all the Crap on it. what good is More Ram , if it is loaded down with all the Bloatware. Give me a Clean Phone.
And the " Next New Phones" are not new at all but the Droid X2 ..that is just a Droid X.. and the Droid3? .. Come on Moto get it together.

Droid X2, Droid 3....yes it's repackaging old technology. Like said before, the Droid Pro and Global prolly did so horrible that Moto doesn't want to take stake in Verizon. Not too mention they are prolly sick of us bashing them constantly over here. But they deserve it. Does anyone with a brain work for Moto. It's ok, I am glad we have choices. Moto's competitors will learn from hopefully from motos bad choice and give us something better.

Yeah talk about shooting yourself in the foot. There are MANY people that explicitly DON'T want the iPhone for what it DOESN'T have.

I would love the iPhone if it ... integrated nicely over wireless like my phone can, had turn by turn spoken nav with the awesomeness that is google nav, and most importantly I use gmail as my primary email. Why the frick would I get an iPhone with subpar compatibility with my current mail account? No I don't want a .Me, YES I want my contacts and everything else (Priority inbox anybody?) synced the way *I* want it to sync.

Finally I love having a device that is awesome but not made by Steve Jobs and his cronies. They make awesome devices, but they make them for idiots to use. I'll take my more advanced Google phone ANY day of the week, thank you very much!
