Motorola tech rep shared an interesting JB tidbit re Razr/Razr Maxx

I talked to my Verizon rep and he told me for $200 I could get v6.1 Fruitcake. I gave him the $200 and am waiting for the download to show up.

Silly person, the next one will be lemon tart, I think he was pulling your chain and made a nice tip!!!

LOL!!!

By the way, I'm selling an apartment on the moon, fairly cheap!!

We are the Droid!! You will be assimilated!! Resistance is futile!!

No Lemon Tart is v.5 . He has access to to next years upgrade v.6 Friutcake! That's why it's $200.  It has an app that can read peoples minds and tell if they are lying!!!! He says for another $150 he can get me the cable to plug into your cars computer and it will drive your car to any destination, handsfree!!! Now that's really a great app.

I had a problem with my phone and the rep I spoke to told me to update to JB. Well, I tried and it says no updates available! WTH? And I was told after JB it was key lime pie...does anybody know what they are talking about? I'm confused...who do we believe?

Well, first off, most off the posts in this thread are poking fun about the slow release of updates. Also at the lack of knowledge of many of VZW tech reps.
The current official OS for the original Droid Razr is Ice Cream Sandwich.
This phone is to be updated to Jelly Bean according to Motorola that will happen during the first quarter of 2013 (by the end of March).
On Christmas Eve there was an "accidental" release of Jelly Bean for the Razr and Razr Maxx. It was captured and made available to anyone who was willing to risk the upgrade. Many did and have been quite pleased. Some folks had problems with it. Motorola has sorta acknowledged that some users received that JB upgrade.
At the moment the only official OS for the original Droid Razr is ISC I think version 4.0 with build # 211. There were a couple off unofficial "test" updated for ICS 214 and 215 that got distributed.
Bottom line is 211 is the current OS for original Razr phones. The Razr M and HD are officially on Jelly Bean. Those phones were released with ICS then updated via OTA to JB. That could be the confusion.
This thread is full off poking fun and most of what you read here should be taken as just that.
No offense to the initial poster. There is a good chance the Verizon Rep was just confused as may be the case with the one you spoke to.

This is what I get for having tried to share something that came along in good faith. When the day comes (which will be never) and I am the fist to receive a legitimate official OTA upgrade notice, rest assured that I will keep the good news to myself.

I tried to make it clear that you were passing along information given to you and not in any way trying to be hurtful. Those of us who have followed this forum for years have often commented on the lack of knowledge of Verizon support staff. They deal with so many different phones and so many different issues that I suppose it is difficult for them to stay informed. They are also limited by what Verizon shares with them.
At least they are always nice and seem to honestly care about their customers.
I, personally am no expert. I spend a great deal of time researching and following development of android. It's sort of a hobby for me. Normal people don't spend that much time doing that and therefore may not be aware of how quickly the type of information you shared is distributed in the "underground".
If I offended you please accept my sincere apology. It was not my intent.
I suspect if you "wasted" as many hours following the rumors posted all over the net as many of us junkies you would also see the humor in what the rep you spoke to said. So, actually the butt of the fun poked here was not you but Verizon reps in general.
I'm sorry if I offended you.
I think you will find that most of us here try to be helpful.

Thanks moset....guess I'll just continue to wait...

You could grab the accidental release and begin enjoying JB. There is some risk but I think it's very minimal. There is a thread here that will guide you step by step.

Interesting development...maybe. I thought in the past, the official Moto website said Razr/Razr Maxx will be upgraded to JB starting in Q1 2013. Now it just says:

DROID RAZR (XT912)

ICS (Android 4.0.4) rollout began in June 2012. Will be upgraded to Jelly Bean (Android 4.1)

DROID RAZR MAXX (XT912)

ICS (Android 4.0.4) rollout began in June 2012. Will be upgraded to Jelly Bean (Android 4.1)

Maybe I'm hallucinating (in that case, those mushrooms last night were really good) and it never said Q1 on that website. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Obviously, if Moto changed the schedule from Q1 to "will be upgraded", it seems like they are pushing it back further.
