I makes me feel uber stupid for asking these questions but I was nvr able to do all these things with my old phone.
So is there also a way that I can connect my s3 to my tv to view movies? My tv has an hdmi output and a usb one too.
Thank you guys and gals fir all the help
To connect the S3 to a TV, you'll need a MHL cable (it connects to the micro USB port and has a HDMI port). But with the S3, Samsung changed the number of pins in the connection for MHL transfer, so old MHL adapters will not work. You'll need one that has the newer specs, and so far, the only one I've seen that works with the S3 is the OEM adapter from Samsung
which is listed here. You'll find a lot of MHL adapters out there for much cheaper, but at this point, none of them work with the S3. I'm sure there will be some third-party adapters out on the market that work with the S3 before too much longer. With the MHL adapter, you'll be able to mirror your S3 to the TV over HDMI, including watching movies.
Since the S3 doesn't support USB mass storage, I'm not sure that a TV would be able to read it. I'm not 100% sure on that, and it would definitely depend on the TV. On my recently purchased 55" LED TV (it's less than a month old), the phone will charge while connected to the USB port, and the phone says it's connected as a media device, but the TV cannot read anything on the phone. I'd venture to say that most TVs won't be able to read it, but it's possible that some can. If a TV did read it, it would read it like a flash drive, so the TV would have to support the playback of the video formats you have on your phone. With a MHL adapter, everything is done on the phone and streamed to the TV.
