moving an "extinct" app from old to new phone

I just ordered a Galaxy Note 3, and it will replace my Droid Razr. I am interested in moving an app from the old to the new phone that is no longer available (play store or otherwise). I realize Google handles moving all current apps just fine, but they must be in the Play Store to work.

Can I move it to the SD card? How do I make it accessible on the new phone? I will probably just reuse my SD card from the Razr on the Note 3.

Using a File Explorer I made an App folder on my SD. Any apps I wanted saved, for whatever reason, I keep there ;)

I use Frostwire to move apps from one device to another. I started using it with my old Kindle Fire because it didn't support the Android Market, aka Play store.you'll need it on both devices. Once you share it from your old to your new one the apk file will be located in the Frostwire folder on your new device. Install like normal side loaded apps by tapping it, follow the prompts.
