Music player lag

So... this is recent, but anyways, when I play a song, it plays fine... WHILE the device is being used (screen still on and etc). BUT when the device locks, the song begins to skip and it is impossible to even turn the screen/unlock it without removing and replacing the battery. Ive tried with alternative music players and I get the same result. What's with this?
