My Droid set up guide for new users

Yep! Good job. Love the part about adding contacts to my home page for one-click dialing. I've been wanting to find a way to do that for awhile now. I second the "can't believe how useless and incomplete the manual they offered with this phone is". But I do love the phone.

some one please help....

i have already posted something similar to this. when i try to sync my moto droid with my music on my computer it won't work!!! i have tried double twist, media monkey and MML. they all give me different error messages except media monkey. media monkey i would try to sync with, except i cant import my playlist. (i have this playlist because i used it for my 16 GB ipod touch that i am now selling because i no longer have a need for it.) double twist has tried to load music on my droid, but about three or four times, it just stopped syncing in the middle of the sync!!! wtf... the sync just froze and i was required to unhook my droid. MML pretty much doesnt work at all. ill plug in my droid and the program pretty much always just become unresponsive. if anybody has any suggestions at all on what i should do, email me at [email protected]

thanks in advance!!!:icon_ banana::motdroidvert:

Some folks are making a file folder to put on your desktop and then putting shortcuts to the favorite contacts they want in that... adds another click, but only one icon space to access as many as you want.

You can also install one of the task bars and put contact shortcuts there.

For myself.. I'm using GDE home and I just assigned on of my icons in the lower task bar to be my phone.. from there I have access to my favorite contacts or all or recent.

You prob already know by now.. but open any contact you want as a favorite and in the top bar there is a star to the right.. highlight that and it will turn gold.. that puts it in your favorites group.

The real manual is downloadable.. but I've never bothered..... maybe I should, I might learn something... second thought...... nah!

Here's a tip from viperboy, who's a Verizon Tech. -- " I have done this on every customer's Droid."

##7764726 (##PROGRAM)
CALL Button
Enter SPC Password - 000000
VERIFY
04 Vocode
Select EVRC-B

This will change how the phone compresses and decompresses call audio. Seems to work really well, I have noticed and improvement for sure and I no longer get the "you sound like you're underwater" complaints from people I talk to. Give it a shot!

I also use the direct message, I put a folder on my screen and put several direct message shortcuts in it. Makes it really fast to send a text.

Just wanted to note that you can in fact call someone via just hitting the microphone symbol on your homepage. You don't have to hit the voicedailer application to do this. Just tap the microphone symbol in the upper right hand corner of your screen and when it prompts you, just say (Call "name of the contact"). For example....."Call Jim Cell" "Call Donna Work". Just say "Call" and however you have that contact's name entered into your contact folder.

Give it a try and let me now how it works out for you.

Some really useful stuff her. Thanks!

One question though: Why would I really need a file manager app for this phone after I create the initial directories by mounting it on my computer? Just curious.

When you take pics, you may want to file them from the camera directory to a more personal place of cataloging.. like my pics, or vacation pics, or new baby pics etc.

Also, if you get an email or email yourself a word or excel document, you may want to do the same instead of just have everything pile up in the "downloads" directory.

You may want to copy something from your phone to the computer or vice versa.

You may want to rename stuff in a place where its easier to manage rather than doing it in gallery or your word document program.

Need is probably not the right word for it but, most people will want to navigate around there SD card at some point. It's just like moving things around on your computer the only way to do it on the phone is to have a file manager.
