Need a little help with settings

Ok, just got my D2G, it is not rooted.

I am using the stock sms app. I keep getting two notifications with every text received and two envelopes in the status bar. I get the one in the pic and another black notification. When I touch the black one it goes to my text inbox. When I touch the white one, it just clears the notification screen and that's it. Getting two text tones with every text is getting real old!!! HELP!

This is it, how do I get rid of this???

I think that your holding the phone and blocking the proximity sensor and that's why it's black before it gets to your ear.

Another thing you can do is to download Screebl from the Market. See if it still happens with Screebl installed, if it does then you can set Screebl to keep your phone lit. The problem with this however is you're liable to hit a button with your face and lose your call.

As far as SMS goes, I would just get rid of handcent. I think the D2 has a good stock app and see no reason to use handcent.

Where is the proximity sensor at? I have been checking it just holding the sides with and without the cover on and it is still the same.
As for the sms thing, I might try the stock one for a while but I like being able to change the appearance

Proximity censor is kind of at the top of the screen. A very tiny hole, not in the screen but you can see it if you look closely.

I think your settings on your stock text app are probably off and that's why you're getting duplicate text, but it's hard to say since you say you have notifications off. I don't know.

Are you using a screen protector? If so, it's quite likely it is interfering with the prox sensor. Some work better than others.

I am using a screen protector... That might be the issue

My wife had this problem with her d2g but mine was fine. Mine wouldn't turn off until you held it up to your ear and when you brought it away, it came back on. Hers stayed off for some reason. I read on another forum to do the *228 and make sure nothing is blocking the sensor while choosing option 2. that did the trick for my wife's d2g

Edit, oh yeah, we both have identical screen protectors on our d2gs

My wife and I have a pair of D2G's also. When I installed the OtterBox protector on mine it worked great, but hers gave me nothing but trouble. Eventually I used a paper hole punch to make hole over the prox sensor (on a new protector). Has worked great since.

I'll have to look in to the *228 thing. I can't imagine why that would make any difference, since I though that just updated PRLs etc, but I guess you never know without trying it.

Just a guess...

Next, I am using handsent sms. I have disabled the stock text and universal inbox notifications but keep getting two notifications with every text and two envelopes in the status bar.p

It sounds like to me that you might have a duplicate setting somewhere in your setup for your sms apps. Look under settings for the apps, as well as under accounts(in settings).

My experience with the proximity sensor is that the phone works better with "in pocket detection" off. I was noticing that with it engaged, the screen would black out if I rotated orientation, which was really annoying when using the camera.

I know, it sounded odd to me too but it worked great after doing only that

Well, I took off the handsent and turned the stock text notification back on. Now I'm still getting two notifications. The text one looks like a black envelope. The other one looks like a white postcard. The postcard is the one I can't get rid of... I turned off the universal inbox. What other setting could be on?

As for the screen locking during calls, I tried the *228 last night with no change. So, I guess it is the screen protector. I know you said the prox sensor is at the top, but which side of the speaker?

Just took off launcher pro with no success... Still double notifications

looks like the white post card looking one it the problem. When I disable the stock messenger the black letter goes away. When I tap the white one in the notification screen it just closes the notification screen. It doesn't open any messenger app. I don't know what app it is for

Ok, I trimmed the screen protectorand that seemed to take care of my calling issue! Now just have to fix that text notification issue
