Need tethering help

I have a rooted Droid 2. I have tried WiFi tethering with both Barnacle and Wireless Tether. I cannot get either of them to work. I have gotten each one to connect once or twice, but not reliably. When I get a connection I am uable to access anything on the web. I'm sure I'm doing somethng wrong but I can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. I would prefer to use Barnacle because it seems to get high praise. I am trying to connect to my laptop and I don't want to use USB.

Well since no one responded, I must be the only one with this problem. After playing with the various settings, I finally got it to work. I found that the problem was with the the encryption. If I turn WEP on it will not connect. I have verified that I am using the same key in the phone and my laptop. I also discovered that it will not connect if I enable MAC security. Although the tether works without security it is not the preferred way to do this. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
