WiFi Tether working?

A nandroid backup would be more apropos.

Ok, so I did some investigating and looks like ROM Manager is the app to use for a nandroid backup. Installed the app, did the Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery. Then tried "Backup Current ROM" when I press this all it does is restart my phone and in ROM manager there is no sign that any back up has been made. Am I doing something wrong? Did I miss a step or is there something extra I have to do because i am using a Droid 2 Global running 2.3.3 (Gingerbread?)

Again any help is much appreciated.

Boot into recovery and you can back up your rom from there. If you can't boot into recovery then ClockWork is not installed correctly.

Until we get an official ClockWorkMod that probably won't work too well. As mentioned above, you need to actually boot into recovery(after you flash custom recovery properly) and manually do a backup. I'd personally suggest Amon Ra until we get an official CWM. The flash process is easy, boot into HBOOT, connect to PC, "fastboot flash recovery <recoveryfile.img>" and you're off to the races.

This is all I can find on it, but this is using radiocomm read instructions 2 or 3 times cause you can screw up your phone with the tool.

Went to this link and did everything it said. No difference. Wifi tether does not work and barnacle still activates verizons mobile hotspot.

Any other thoughts on getting a rooted DROID 2 global running gingerbread to be able to do wifi tethering? Do I need to just flash a different rom, would that make this easier?

Might be slightly off topic here but I have used PdaNet for the past two years with absolutely no issues whenever I needed to tether to my laptop. Through 3 devices Original Droid, Droid X, and Bionic, while using a PC and my current Macbook, PdaNet has served me well. Yes, I've had to pay $17.99 for the PC 2 years ago, and recently $15.99 for the Macbook, I feel that is $34 well spent. We all want to save a buck, but sometimes folks .......... you get what you pay for.By the way, I'm tethered at work right now using PdaNet. ;-)

I tried downloading the one of the latest versions of "Wifi Tether" beta (3.1 beta 9) and it seems to work fine with "Routing Fix" checked. Was able to tether my Asus Transformer tablet to it and achieve 4G speeds. I ran Speedtest and hit 15243kbs down, 6833kbs up. Get it here:

Downloads - android-wifi-tether - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting

I was using Beta 9 on the train today in my first "real world" test. It stayed connected better than my previous wifi tether app for my Incredible and the speeds were noticeably better than the last time I tried running it in a test environment (I was at about 8Mbps down, 1.5 Mbps up). However, I'm still not sure about this whole ad hoc thing.

Whenever I tried running tethering with encryption it would error out on me whether I tried iwconfig or wpa_supplicant. In order to get a solid connection I had to disable encryption. Of course, doing that allowed for RAYMA's, ShADoNNa's, and JaMeel's iPods to auto-connect shortly after we passed the West Baltimore stop... I enabled Access Control and only selected my laptop to be allowed, but I still saw the iPods listed as "connected" to my hot spot even though they had a red X next to their names. I couldn't see their devices listed on my network when I scanned it through Windows 7 though.

I guess my question is -- does anyone know if there's a way to successfully enable encryption, guarantee Access Control is working, or just hide the damn SSID? I pull enough bandwidth on my own each month without Rayma, Shadonna, and JaMeel streaming Pandora through my hotspot the whole way to DC...

just curious, seeing as i currently use my HTC Incredible to connect with my ps3, which the phone is rooted, would the rezound allow me to that the same once i root it, or would i be better off staying with the incredible for now? because i use my phone right now for my home internet, i already pay for internet service with my phone, i dont need it at home too...

Trying not to be judgmental here so don't mind me... You probably do need internet service at home if you're trying to run multiplayer online gaming off a console through your phone...my opinion and my opinion only... That being said, you can wifi-tether(currently ad-hoc only) on a rooted Rezound. I believe a PS3 will pickup the ad-hoc connection and if you're using the Android wifi tether from android-wifi-tether - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project Hosting then you're in good shape to keep doing what you're doing on the Rezound.

Yes, I can confirm encryption does not work (tried Beta 10 too). I also tried enabling Access-Control to lock out unwanted connections...that does not seem to work either. I was able to connect my laptop without authorizing the connection. I also tried lowering the radio transmit power and it warned me that not all Wi-Fi chipsets support it and I saw no loss in signal strength.

So, I guess with this tool at least its best not to tether in a public place until its fixed.

funny enough, i get great speeds while playing online, a hiccup here and there, but nothing major. i can play bf3 online so easily. and no sweat on what ya said, alot of people consider it stealing, but i consider it using my unlimited data how im supposed to.

I don't consider it stealing. I'm a proponent of using your data how you see fit. Heck, you're probably not in my area messing with my network anyway so it really doesn't bother me. :) All I was suggesting is right tool for the job.

It seems to me that Android WiFi Tether doesn't support our phone and Barnacle WiFi Tether doesn't support 4g.

I just gave Barnacle a try and, so far, it works. WEP encryption works (not the best, but better than nothing). I am getting decent speeds on my Transformer: 11746kbps down, 4861kbps up.

Sweet. I must have done something wrong or they have released an update since I last tried. Will try it again soon.

see thats the thing, people on these forums haved more or less called me a thief. but in all fairness, verizon charges you a premium for a service your phone is capable of out of the box, on top of your data package, AND limit how much you can use while tethering and charge you further if you go over that. i should know...i work for them as a wireless specialist and inventory manager >.>. if i had decently affordable or fast internet to actually get, it would be one thing, but everything else around here is too expensive or too slow for the price...
