NEW DROID OTA UPDATE ALERT (still 2.1)

Wait, I missed something: (funny thread btw...lol) I would think going back to 2.0.1 would be fine, maybe not, I dont know. But did anyone install this so called new one, and try to install sprecovery .sbf on it? U know to root a stock 2.1?

I swear I missed that....unless there was a typo earlier. Someone tell me I'm just hungry and need to eat something....cuz to flash that sprecovery.sbf, I dont think thats the same as flashing the phone back to stock 2.0.1

Aint that sprecovery.sbf something someone made to work on official 2.1? And I havent been to droidmod and droidlife to see what they talking about.

if they did block the sbf recovery that will not keep you from rooting. There are some of us who rooted with out using that method :icon_ devil:

If another guinea pig is needed for another "leaked" ota, I will do it tomorrow night before I activate my replacement Droid that arrives tomorrow. Otherwise, this was a lot of fun, and glad was able to prove this does not block the ability to root again.
Vulcan do it again so we can watch...

Also note the difference in the file sizes....:icon_eek:

yea i see that... different sizes! they're certainly not the same, as someone just reported before :icon_eek:
signed-voles-ESE81-from-ESD56.fa406da6.zip = 15mb
signed-voles-ota-29593.439b5590.zip = 69.6 mb

My phone, at this moment, while rooted on sg6.0 when I go to settings/about phone/System Updates says:
Android Update 2.1 69.6mb
Requires a restart
[download]

And if i download it does and then looks like the above again so it never actually installs and only downloads if I prompt it to.
My guess is it is an old update we already had?

yeah that notification must be for the original OTA... weird weird very weird

Yea I was one of the ones who had to go back to 2.0.1 when I first got my phone and my "blonde" GF updated my phone when she was using it. So even if it did block sprecovery, ppl would just have to go back to 2.0.1 like we were doing before that sprecovery file.

Wait wait wait...it doesnt say int he alldroid that it blocks sbf restore. Just sbf root method. So you could still root using rom manager correct?

You can also see it all tomorrow at 3, 5, 7 and 10 pm. Be sure to watch the type of show that can only happen when hackers get worried the man has caught on to them!

Listen to the lyrics, not mom on the drums. This is what I thought of when I saw when the encores were going to air. I guess Don Henley didn't want his video on youtube:

Wow, fun thread. I was almost saddened to see it start to end. I vote for a sticky so I can easily find it and re read it when I'm feeling blue!

It was fun......oh well....now its time to go back to waiting for the new phones....lets do this again some time, shall we? And I tried, it doesnt block the sprecovery file either. Just a bigger OTA update? I had to see what this was all about. I did write down the kernel number to see if it changed. I have no idea if it did tho. Someone out there have the orig OTA 2.1 stock kernel?

alldroid is down so I cant seem to access that link

stuck in the "requires a restart" download loop on smoked glass 6.0.1
read/write trick dosnt work this time around for the 69.6mb file
do i need to go stock -> 2.1 -> root?
or is there an easier way?
